From a very reliable source of mine I have learned that the Sony BDP-S550 that has a suggested retail price of $399 will be selling for around $305 from some discount mail order companies once large quantities of the player become available in a few months.

I hope your right...i was looking to buy this player for some time now at a reasonable price. $399 looked pretty good but i think it will eventually drop down a litttle more...lets say by late November. And if thats the case i'll take 2. One for myself and Pops for Christmas.

DARN IT!!! I was just about to pull the trigger on the 350, but if I can get the 550 for approx the same price then why the heck not!

Now I gotta wait longer. Perhaps "black friday"? I'm sure we'll see a ton of deals that day.

I was pretty fortunate. I found it at provantage.com for $309, $320 delivered. I think they had it mis-priced, as about an hour later, they had changed the price to $324 ($335 delivered) - which is still very good.

Not sure when they expect to have availability, though.

Of course, if the 550 is $305, the 350 could be as low as $205 at the same time.

Currently the cheapest price on the BDP-S350 I have seen is around $243. The manufactories suggested retail price between the BDP-S350 and BDP-S550 is $100 difference but when shopping online the price difference between the two players is only around $55.

Get it from Sonystyle.com. If you apply for the Sona Visa card and pay for it with that, you get $150 off the current $399 price, bringing it down to $249 plus tax.

I just bought my S350 for $279 a couple weeks ago...

Oh well, I still get to enjoy BD's in the bedroom now.

I don't do credit cards. I think our economy reflects the consumers ignorance towards credit cards. I was 18 when I got my first card of three amounting to a total of $14,000 in debt. Now I'm 22 and debt free. Never again I say!!

anyone plan on using the 7.1 analog outputs on the 550?? i'd like to keep using my old harman kardon reciever which has 7.1 ch input
