its time for something new... im considering onkyo 5100, 6100, or 7100 system. or possibly building a klipche synergy system little by little with onko txsr606 reciever. or maybe harman kardon 400 series amp. subs... velodyne/klipche. ne opinions or reccomendttions? maybe something im overlooing that i should check out.. and if so where?

If your room is a moderate size, an Onkyo 606 will do a great job with some half decent speakers attached. If your room is approaching medium/large sort of sizes, you would want to go for one higher up in the range with a bit more power. A 7.1 setup on the 606 can drag the power outputs down a bit from the specs quoted. Mine is great, and i'm well pleased with effect in my theatre (living room )

My 606 has Harmon Kardon speakers hanging off it by the way...

I have the 606 with Klipsch F2 towers, C1 center, S1 surrounds & the Sub-10. I think it's a pretty good bang for the buck type set up. The whole set-up cost about $1800 and sounds great in my room.

The 6100 and 7100 both have 606 receivers in the package. I would personally skip the 7100 because the price doesn't really justify the few extras you get. Go with the 6100 instead. You can get it HERE for $579.99 with free shipping. If the speakers don't satisfy then you could always change out the front three down the road as your money allows. I think the sub will satisfy for a while. I was impressed with my old Onkyo sub for what it was, and that was a front firing sub. The one that's included in the 6100 package is a higher wattage down firing sub which should perform even better. Of course you can upgrade that too if you decide you want more. I think for the money this package is well worth it since you are basically paying $220 for seven speakers and a sub when the receiver would set you back $350 minimum if purchased seperately. Not to mention shipping is free!

im thinkin probably the 6100... only thing i seem to be losing is zone 2. power out seems to be slightly higher then 606 reciever, and comes with that ipod dock. i can get it cheap... thanks to undisclosed discount from having a red circle badge on my shirt.... has dts ma, and true hd... so i dont seem to be losing anything major... can anyone think of anything im forgetting that may make it better to assemble the system? i could buy the klipsche f2's, basic surrounds, sub 10, and c2.... but that puts me bout $1200. onkyo seems to tip scale with their boxed package for bang of buck. harman kardon has a decent satelite system..., but im lil sore after my harman sub's amp went after a year n 3 months...

It all depends on the money you want to spend. The 6100 is a great bargain, and speakers can always be upgraded later if you desire. The Klipsch route would be superior, but its also twice the money. For some reason Onkyo likes to post different specs on the HTIB receivers than what they list on the separately sold receiver, but I'm pretty sure they're identical. I think its mostly a marketing strategy to make their HTIB specs comparable to the competition since Pioneer, Samsung, and others all sell HTIB's boasting 1000 watts or more total power. My 605 puts out 90 watts per channel RMS, but the manual gives much higher wattage in various scenarios. On a side note, are you sure your sub's amp is dead? Did you try replacing the fuse? Just a thought. By the way, I love my Harman Kardon speaker package! The sound is very clear and detailed, and the sub is great. Their speaker packages are a very good value, especially if you are in the market for satellite speakers.

its weird with the sub... it would pulsate in sound... and turn intself on and off.... after about 5 mins play.... off it would go and start pulsating. i had it looked at at the local hk dealer... free because itsa work partner... and he said its the amp circuit baord... no bueno.
