Default Pioneer95FD or Sony S500

I have a Pioneer Elite 94 receiver with a Samsung p1000, which I desperately need to upgrade. Any thoughts or comments between the two players? The pioneer is a few hundred more, I would prefer the Pioneer, but is it worth it?

Since you have a receiver that can do MA it is really no choice the 95. Go and look closely at the specs of the Sony it will not send MA.

Yes the Pioneer store in Costa Mesa got a few units in earlier this week. So it is starting to trickle out as most Elite products do.

Based on joerod's review, I would say "no". He made no mention of it.

I know the Samsung has it's limitations when compared to the Pioneer, but has very close specs. With Pioneer announcing a new Elite Blu-Ray player in a few months at CEDIA 2008 I am not sure if I should wait or get the 1400 until some of this calms down.

I personlly would have a hard time recommending Samsung. I bought a 1200 early since it was 1.3 HDMI. Figuring it would get some upgrades being that the only real pion to 1.3 is the audio. Well they have not delevered and it appears they have no intention to either. Then there is the issue with the Fox titles from a few weeks ago. I really feel that thouse updates should have been on the street before the movies not after. The fact that a few new things were being introduced were no secret on those titles. We knew and we are not manufactures. My suggestion would be to wait on the new Panasonic and see what it has to offer then make your choice.
I must say I had this discussion with one of the employees at the Pioneer store about will they have another player in just a few months since this one is not being advertised as 1.1. He said he did not think they would do that. I have not been back there since to talk with him since the announcement. I am sure he will not be happy to see me.

I have the Samsung BD-P1400 and love it, but since this thread is not for it, I will only say that you can search for my review in the forums. I would prefer the Sony, but as they have been a bit slow with updates and still have not released a DTS-MA update for ANY sony player, then I would say get the Pioneer. The new audio codecs are incredible, I don't understand those HD-DUD morons who say that they can't tell the difference.
