Default Sony BDP-S500??

I am a total newbie, pre-newbie actually. Put together a Sony package March 10, 40" XBR, STRDG910, and BDPS500 from a local (mid Michigan) Sony dealer; I figured I'd pay more to have one manufacturer and one local tech to make sure everything works..... 10 weeks later the BDPS500 still HAS NOT ARRIVED. Local dealer has been trying to switch me to the 300, says the "region reps" doesn't know when they'll get 500s in (Amazon lists them "in stock"), and the Sony Electronics call site (Florida?) has been polite but.... I'd like to get Sony national to actually work with my local dealer to solve my problem but mostly I'd like to get my blu-ray player!!! Any similar experiences? Any Advice? I know this is totally rediculous!

Default Not big box store!

I guess I'm reticent to name the store; I still think they're trying to be helpful. They are a Sony Dealer, but, they are not one of the big box stores (could be one of my problems).

They(sony) probably are not making them as much any more, because of the two new ones coming out this summer (BDP-S550/BDP-S550).

Default Given up on the BDP-S500

I have given up on my Sony BDP-S500 as it does not support DTS-HD Master Audio, and many new movies are now released in this format.
I have just purchased the Panasonic DMP-BD30 as it can pass bitstream in all formats to my AMP (Onkyo TX-SR705). The BDP-S500 is a great unit, but Sony is not likely to release a firmware update to support DTS-HD MA, so I have jumped ship. By the way the Panasonic BD30 is great!!!

Otherwise wait for the new models to arrive, Panasonic DMP-BD50 or Sony BDP-S550.

When I purchased the new player the rep told me they had no stock for the BDP-S500 for months (New Zealand).

Default Thanks

Thanks, all. Still don't have it in my hands. Sony is claiming it's been shipped but they can't seem to find a tracking number just now. The switch to Panasonic is looking more and more likely. This is not what I've experienced from Sony in past media acquisition cycles!!

Default Panasonic!

After 2 weeks of "Adam" at Sony saying they had a new one (not referb) with my name on it.... I kept asking for the tracking number....couldn't find it. I'm very disappointed with Sony and my one manufacturer, one local dealer notion is out the window

Panasonic 30 is the answer.
