Default Sony BDP-S500

I just bought this machine and I'm happy with it! But there's one thing when I play a DTS HD disc it comes up on my Onkyo 605 as DTS! I forked over $600 for this machine I really thought this was going to be the final addition to my Home Theater setup! Dolby TrueHD is not a problem it sends that bitstream. Can anyone help??.......JeffR714

The S500 doesn't support DTS-HD MA, either by decoding or via HDMI bitstream. Sorry.

It clearly states on all of Sony's literature and their online product descriptions that the S500 decodes and bitstreams DTS HD, which is not the same as full-blown DTS HD Master Audio. Very few current players decode or pass DTS HD Master Audio.

I'm hoping that a future firmware update can add that capability to the S500, as I've got my eye on that one as well.

I'm pretty sure someone here already confirmed with a SONY rep that there will be a firmware update that will make the S500 do MA. I forgot when he said it was coming our way.

It supposed to have a FW update sooner or later for that, S500 and ES2000 chip are compatible with DTSHD (MA and HR) bitstream...

Second that...I like Sony, but the S500 as it is right now is a joke (no profile 1.1 and no DTS MA for $700). I would not buy the S500 until it is confirmed that a fw upgrade is on the way. Support the companies that are putting out a more complete product (like the BD-30).

I took your advice and took the Sony BDP S500 back and got the Panasonic DMP BD30 instead. I'm downloading the firmware at this moment. I'll let you know how I make out....Jeff
