Has anyone seen any write ups on this new model?

Zippo. Nada. Nut'n.

Nobody else chimed in and I really didn't know what else to say.

Think we're all anxiously awaiting details.

Waiting on 1.1 spec players to hit the market. I'm hoping this one will be faster load times than my BDP-S1, pass 8 channel to my receiver, and have a 10/100 for BD-Live. I've been pleased with my S1 which is the main reason I'm willing to consider Sony with the future Denon and Pioneer Elite offerings.

Thanks guys. I still haven't bought a player (or hdtv for that matter), because every time I turn around, something new is hitting the market. From the research I've done, I'm really hoping that the new model will sport faster load times, 1.3 hdmi and cd playback. A 'Best of' if you will.

No leaked info yet, I'm sure we'll find out after the Denver CEDIA show in Sep 5-9th. Keep your eyes peeled for the press releases.

I'd like to hear what audio formats are supported right out of the box on this one.

Maybe Dolby True HD. Maybe DTS HD. Or maybe Sony will just skip the middle man and hire the original actors to come to your house and perform the dialogue right there in your living room.
Thanks, Manco.

Thanks, Manco.
Sony has used Sigma Design's SMP8634 in their previous players. Mostly likely Sony BDP-S500 will be using Rev. C of that chip. Sigma Design's Blu-ray Development Kit supports decoding of

- Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby Digital Plus 7.1,
- Dolby TrueHD 7.1
- DTS 5.1, DTS-HD HR 5.1, DTS-HD MA 5.1

So I would expect BDP-S500 to do that as well.

Default Picture Quality

Does anyone think the picture quality will be any better than a BDP-S300 because I was going to pick up the S300 pretty soon but if the PQ on the 500 will be better then I might wait.

If this thing is $500 or less I'll be very tempted to get one if it decodes all the audio formats and is 1.1 compliant.

It will probably be announced at the CEDIA 2007, Sept 5-7, like many Electronic Device that are released in the 3/4 and 4/4 07

Mike

Probably be the same PQ. I'm guessing it'll be the same thing that Panasonic did, and just re-badge the current model and give it some firmware updates.

ISTR the BDP-S500 being Profile 1.1 compliant. If so, that would rule out it being a rebadged BDP-S300 + FW updates. I guess time will tell. :-)
