2. No kind of a paradox. You really can't have one without the other. What I would say however, is get the best speakers you can afford and go with an entry level HDMI Receiver. If you tell us what your budget is, Im sure there will be plenty of good recommendations made by other members here. |

question is...do you want a full 5.1 + receiver setup now...or build your setup over time?
If you want a quick fix 5.1 + receiver now: Polk RM6750 + Onkyo 606 or...get a receiver like the Onkyo 606 and start with a pair of Font speakers. Then gradualy buy additional speakers. ![]() |

I would try this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/RM-10-5-Pack-Hom...742.m153.l1262 http://cgi.ebay.com/PSW10-black-Home...742.m153.l1262 Ebay direct is a authorized Polk Audio dealer. They sell Polk Audio's refurbished products. As far as your receiver: http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-TX-SR606...9918380&sr=1-1 I know it's slightly stretching the budget, but I think for $500-$600 that this is one of the best you can do. |

You would need a receiver... first to power any speakers. cause a speaker without a receiver is buying a car without an engine!!
my budget was similar to yours. but if you stretch a bit..( $200 more LOL) you could have the setup i just bought... TX-SR606 receiver+ Polk Audio Monitor 50 fronts, Polk Audio CS1 Center, Polk Audio Monitor 30 bookshelfs surrounds. cost me about $360 for the speakers + $313 for the receiver so about $673 total.. and just save up for a sub. |

Anyway, Crackin's suggestion is really good. There's a reason this setup choice keeps coming up in entry-level questions. Either way you go you'll get the best bang for your buck at that price range. |
