Does anyone know if there are any units out yet that give you a receiver and some decent speakers in order to pick up these different types of HD audio? If not, I know they are bound to hit the market soon but if anyone knows of a place where I can pick something like this up I would greatly appreciate it.
I know this is all getting started and may take some time but was just curious if there was anything on the market yet? Any help? |

Onkyo 908 has a 605 and 7.1 speaker (along with ipod dock and DVD changer).
You could buy the 605 and some onkyo 7.1 speaker sets for a couple hundred less.... There are a lot of options, you could get an onkyo or yamaha receiver that will handle the HD codecs for around $400, then get a 5.1 speaker set from tons of the brands out there. Will really depend on what you want, and what you can spend.. |

Thanks Slec but that is what I am just looking for. An all in one system and it appears that the only one out there is the onkyo at this point that will support all audio that BR has to offer.
I guess I will either wait for them to start piling out or possibly by and HDMI receiver and some speakers. Decisions, decisions.... |

There's tons of great stuff out there for system speakers: klipsch quintet, Def Techs, Mirages, like I said, figure out what you are comfortable spending and if you can, give them a listen... Happy Hunting! Last edited by Slec; 04-03-2008 at 03:07 AM. |

just curious, but why an "All in one"
Why not the Receiver, and then add the 5.1 speaker set you like the best, and do without the DVD changer etc. because you're going to be using a Blu-Ray player anyways, so it'll serve as your CD player and Movie player anyways. If it's for "convenience" buying a receiver and plugging in a 5.1 speaker system from a box is just as easy/convenient, because either way you're going to have to connect the speakers. EDIT.... Looks like SLEC beat me to it. |

But right now that is what I have so that is what I am making due until I find something that is convienent. I want a dvd upscale player, and a BR player. Right now I have both and it just happens that my receiver has the upscale dvd player in it. I actually find it better to put dvds in upscale dvd players versus BR players in my opinion anyways. BR are meant for BR. Yea they upscale and play cds and all that but it is also wearing your player down when you have an upscale player just sitting here. So when I watch a dvd it goes in my upscale, when i watch bluray it goes in my samsung. May sound dumb but that is just how i am with my equiptment. Again just looking for ideas as to what is out there and I see the 605 and I could add speakers to it. Or I could wait. I see panasonic has a system out now and samsung is in the works of making one. I am just getting some general information. No biggie |

watch out for the Onkyo 800 kit as it does not handle HDMI audio, and therefore the HD audio you seek (does your BD player internally decode? I don't think I've seen what type of player you have)
Katie, how many pieces of equipment will you be hooking in with HDMI (BR and upscaling DVD player =2)? It may be a good idea to think about how you will hook everything into the receiver to insure you get a receiver that is right for you. If your cable/satellite system is HD you may have to use HDMI, or you may have the option to use component. Just something to think about as you move forward. how about this one http://www.amazon.com/Sony-HT-SS2000...7196155&sr=8-1
it is an all in one but without a player. however i would strongly recommend an onkyo 605 and a separate speaker system like this http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-Cha...7196470&sr=1-1 so that if you want to upgrade later you would not have to get a whole new system ![]() |
