Default Crushing and Onkyo HTIB

Hi, can somebody explain what "crushing" means. I see the term on a lot of the reviews and just want to understand.

Also, is the Onkyo 7100 HTIB a good product? Anybody know?

Black crush is typically referring to when a Blu-ray transfer is slightly too dark in spots, obscuring detail in low lit scenes. Black crush is a compression of the bottom end of the video dynamic range that obscures various levels of black and dark gray and transforms them into amorphous black blobs. Shadow detail is related in that it refers to the visibility or obscuring of various levels of black and dark gray. Here is a thread from months ago about it:

prob the best HTIB on the market. It was on Amazon for about $600 before xmas until they ran out. Check around you should be able to find it for that price soon.
