Default Promising information for Hitchcock releases

Source: El País (in Spanish)

Guillermo del Toro talks about the publication in book form of a book he wrote about Alfred Hitchcock when he was in film school, and he comments: "Two weeks ago I finished some audio commentaries for the new DVD edition of Psycho, Rear Window and North by Northwest."

Universal rereleased Psycho and Rear Window on DVD in October 2008 as part of the "Legacy Series," so this must be for something else.

FWIW...

I hoped they'd be released last year with the DVD's but i'm expecting they'll release them on BD by the end of the year. I so badly want to see Vertigo and Rear Window in their BD glory.

By "commentaries", he may just actually mean interviews or comments as he does appear in the new Legacy extras for Rear Window and Psycho. North by Northwest has not seen a new release yet... and 2009 is its 50th Anniversary!

That's correct, but if he recorded them two weeks ago they couldn't be for a DVD that was released in October 2008, could they?

Ah hah... I for some reason skipped over the words 'two weeks ago' lol. Very interesting indeed. I'll believe it when I see it, and THEN will I regret buying the 2-disc legacy sets.

Do we know for sure on what date he made that comment?

Hitchcock releases are what I'm most waiting for on Blu...but with my luck, they'll start with 'Frenzy'

Del Toro is an excellent commentator. He single-handedly elevated the MoC release of Vampyr above the concurrent Criterion -- and having him comment on Hitchcock would be absolutely amazing. Especially on Blu-ray!

NBNW has already been (unofficially?) announced by WB as an upcoming digibook:

I hope it's still in the works, as it was supposed to be released in 2008!

Decided to be stubborn and wait for the blus. (Had enough DVDs of these as it is.) No matter how long it takes.

That article was posted over 10 months ago, most of those mentioned have not gotten the digibook treatment, but we know are at least in production for some kind of special package. Only 2 have actually come out since then... I also doubt they will be re-releasing Blade Runner in a digibook since it would be a downgrade from the current inexpensive 5-discer.

Normally I would not think any company would release anything like this since they did Psycho and Rear Window so recently...but this is Universal we are talking about who do this every other week.

So was Rear Window, as I'd nebulously heard at some point...

As for Psycho...c'mon, it's Universal--What did YOU think was going to be the first back-catalog movie they'd release on Blu under their own power?
Today, studios are all about Pop-Icon Franchises, and for Universal, it's either Norman or Frankenstein.
(Seeing as they'd already released the Mummy movies and MIB.)
