Is blu-ray picture quality better than HD? - Blu-ray Forum

I know that blu-ray stores holds more storage, but it didnt say anything about its picture quality. I wanted do know if blu-ray's movie picture quality will be better than HD's movie picture quality.

It appears Blu-ray movies will be in 1080p, if this is true than yes it absolutely will be better than HD broadcasts.

I expect that it will look better than broadcast HD because of bit rate also.

The bitrate for ATSC does not exceed 20 Mbps - other forms such as DVHS DTheater use up to 28 Mbps encoding so they are more accurate encodes of the D5 master.

I would expect that BD will be in the high 20's for data rate.

I thought that the transfer rate for BR was 36MBps, but that most movies would be 24MBps. The remaining 12MBps for commentaries, languages etc. Though I may be wrong. Anyone else read this? :?:

it will be 13mb for audio and 23mb for video so it will be well used.

If MPEG-2 is used, we'll have a good quality for the resolution that will be used, but if MPEG-4 is used, what you've seen all these years will be uncomparable with the great quality it will be !!!!
