Australia was a fun watch but definately not worth purchasing. Eagle Eye was fun and if it was ever on a deep discount i might pick it up. Just rented Slumdog Millionaire. Considered buying it, but its the kind of movie i really wanted to watch one more time (saw it in the theatre) but not likely the kind you re-watch a bunch.

Australia - Worth a watch, wouldnt buy it though
Twilight - We loved it and will buy it
Rachel Getting Married - Solid, but only a rental
Casino Royale - Didnt like it at all
Quo Vadis - Not that good

The moral of the story is that renting is your FRIEND and blind buying just doesnt pan out most of the time. Just in my list, just 1 out of 5 films was worth buying for me. The rest would have been a waste of money.

I tend to watch movies over again and as such have a tough time with renting. Just seems to be tacking on another $4-6 to the purchase price. This is particularly true with some lower priced tv series that rent by the disk; ie. buy the series for $40 vs renting the 4 disk individually. Also bugs me not to have something tangible. It's one thing to go to the cinema for the experience, as I can't adequately replicate that at home.

Yes, as a result I have been burned by the occasional regreattable blind buy, but these can also be re-sold to offset some of the purchase price. I think the infrequency with when this happens outweights the 'investment' of renting and then subsequently buying. And that also assumes that every rental is returned on time!

Recently rented 28 Weeks Later and Leatherheads from Netflix. Both were worth a watch, but I won't buy either one.

You bring up a good point, but for me personally, the number of movies weeded out by renting more than makes up for the rental cost and ends up saving me $$$ in the long run. But I also rent from Netflix and don't spend anywhere near $4-6 per movie.

I have been rentinf for quite some time now...haven't purchased a Bluray disk in a while. Come to think of it i rented the Dark Knight. I have about 70 Blurays which i purchased all reference quality. I don't buy any Bluray disk just for the sake having them...that includes some of those Horrific looking transers that look just like their DVD counterparts.

Recent Blu-Rentals

Body of Lies: Decent not great. I'm not a big fan of CIA films so this wasn't in my wheelhouse.

Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist: Slightly above average film with Michael Cera playing the same character he did in Juno and SuperBad.

Madagascar 2: As kids movies go, I thought this was good. Better than the first one.

Synecdoche, New York: A little slow for the first hour and a half but the final half hour is AMAZING. Charlie Kaufman really is an awesome screenwriter.

Punisher War Zone: I think my wife liked this more than me. The action scenes were totally fun (hanging from a chandelier while shooting everything is sight was awesome). The plot itself was a tad weak hence making it a very average film.

Twilight: Wow. I didn't think I'd make it 20 minutes into this but I made it the whole way through and thought it was actually entertaining. Now, I actually want to see the sequel but I'll be damned if I see it in a theater with 200 15 year old screaming girls.

Babylon A.D.: Brutal!

My Name Is Bruce: This movie was a lot of fun to watch but then again, I'm a total fanboy when it comes to Bruce Campbell. If you're not into his movies, you'll probably hate this.

Just rented Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed on Blu from Netflix with Ben Stein. That was a great movie.

We watched Shooter before that.

I'd probably buy Shooter, but I don't think I'd like to re-watch Expelled.

I just returned Righteous Kill to Netflix yesterday and will be returning Pineapple Express today. Both were ok movies that are worth seeing once, maybe twice but don't think I'd purchase either of them.

Rock 'n Rolla, excellent Guy Ritchie British gangster movie.

Death Race, predictable seen-it-all-before movie, but still had some great action. Definately worth a watch for action fans.

Default Marley & Me

Just watched this two nights ago.

I was quite impressed, thought it was going to be kinda lame. However, I did not know that it was based off a book which was based off the real person's newspaper columns.

With that, this movie was ferry funny but verry verry sad ... let's just say I had a dog go through somewhat the same thing (no spoilers), so it hit home for me!

Im surprised a thread like this hasn't been made before and i recommend it be sticky as it appears many ppl rent on here.

I rented

Body of Lies-A slightly above adverge film but hardly very original. Crowe borrows from his character in Insider and DiCaprio from his in the Departed.

The plot is pretty standard all been done before post 9/11. Think Syriana with a touch of Bourne. Why anyone thinks they need to keep covering this ground again is beyond me cause it's all been said and done before now.

Which would explain one reason why this film was a flop in cinemas. The other being ppl want to escape from all this stuff especially in America.

Ridley Scott narrowly avoids another nail in the coffin for his faltering directing career.

Just give the movie public something we relay want Mr Scott. Gladiator 2 or another Alien move would be nice.
