Pioneer Elite Break In Discussion - Blu-ray Forum

Hey Guys,

As you are aware from my other Thread, my Elite Pro 111 is coming in tommorow. I just wanted to get everyone's opinion on the Break In

Yes I've already read the link from D-Nice at AVSForum.com and I downloaded the Thumbnail Drive.

Now i get the whole instructions, but one basic question.

The Downloadable Thumbnail Drive, do I need to burn it onto DVD, or just unzip and file in a flash drive and connect that with the TV. What should I do? And how to do it? Please help a fellow brother....

I guess I'm the first one here. First off I'm an idiot when it comes to getting Audio/Video stuff hooked up. That is why I paid about $ 180 to get the TV hooked up. Good luck to you getting that beast running ! And I hope you can sleep tonight knowing the MASTER is on the way !

Hook it [the thumbdrive/flashdrive that you have it on ] up to your TV via USB and your on your way. Dont need to burn an ISO image on dvd. Too much hassle in my book cos you would have to play via a dvd player. Which you dont need to do since your Kuro will be comin with a USB port!

Speaking as someone who bought the Pro 110, do not underestimate break in time. I have severe image retention issues with my Elite from limited, casual use of my display as a video output for my Zune MP3 player. Because the graphics were static, it caused pretty severe issues in my first several months.

First I ran the bars every night for a week - no improvement. Then I cycled through thousands of images over the course of many days - marginal improvement. I had to rent March of the Penguins, crank up the settings and play it on a loop overnight twice and this weekend will be seeing how that helped.

So despite all the hype, image retention and burn-in are not a thing of the past.

Heck, with my Kuro, I never bothered with break-in, and in 2 months, no problems. Of course, I never watch any TV, but I watched 2.35/1.85 movies, played games with static images, with no problem. But I would run the white bar right before I went to bed, and I did use the PS3s visualizer a lot for music, so maybe that served as break-in. But nowawadays I leave static images on for maybe 30 mins tops when I take breaks, and no issues.

Well there in lies the problem doesnt it? Why would you have static images on it right after you purchased it? I have had no whatsoever issues with burn-ins and image retention and I watch more movies via BDs than cable. Sorry your going through these issues.

Click on the link and read through the thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1053444. This should help you make up your mind about properly breaking in your new Kuro.

In my case, I ran the break-in disk on my Kuro but I also took some time to watch movies and TV (full screen mode). I think it's important to break-in Plazma TV's - it kind of hardens the pixels to prevent any problems in the future (best way someone described it to me).

However it is completely up to you to break in your new Kuro or not (not a requirement by the factory).

The next step (after 100 hours) is to investigate purchasing ControlCal and inputting DNICE's ISF settings. I did that and it made a nice improvement in the picture over the default settings.

I am going one step further...next month my Kuro will be professionally calibrated by one of the premier ISF calibrators (according to AVS Forum). That should be fun.

Milo, if you could, give me more info for ControlCal, please - I'm on the website right now, but is it a free download? I'm approaching 150 hours and when I get to 200 I would like to kick in DNice's settings.

Seems simple enough to use.

It's a free download but you need to purchase the cal file for your set. Turbe (www.controlcal.com) sells two kinds of files, one to enter the settings and another opens a secret panel to display total hours and other information. I believe he gives a discount to purchase both. In other words, without the settings files, the free download is useless.

It was confusing to me to but Turbe is awesome and will answer all your questions.

Also you need to get a serial cable (both ends female) (from Monoprice). http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2
