The David Prowse vader voice is hilarious BTW.

Hmmm.... on the one hand, I thought Star Wars would do better.

But on the other hand, it is an expensive set, it is a catalog title, and it did come out on a Friday, so there are fewer days worth of sales to actually track.

I am more surprised that the OT came in the top 5. I didn't think it would. I wonder where that incredible "prequel trilogy" debuted?

It's not that expensive...

Star Wars (6 movies, 3 bonus discs) - $79.99 (now $89.99 2011)

Alien Anthology (4 movies, 2 bonus discs) - $99.99 (now $83.99 2011)

Godfather Trilogy (3 movies, 1 bonus disc) - $89.99 2011 (don't know release price)

A lot of older catalog releases are still going for more than Star Wars' launch price.

I'll bet more sets got crushed during shipping and were sent back as defective than were actually sold in-store

I kid

No it isn't expensive for what you are getting, it is also 3-4 times more expensive than an average dvd/bd release. So that IS more expensive to the average consumer.

So you think the Lapti Nek disco song fits the Star Wars universe better? Face it --- Lapti Nek and Jedi Rocks are both crap. But at least Jedi Rocks is timeless crap. It sounds like bad pop music that could've been made in 1960 or 1990 or 2020. On the other hand, Lapti Nek sounds like it could only have been made in 1977. It was dated even by 1983 standards.

Nyub nyub was far more terrible. That you would prefer nyub nyub tells me that you are letting nostalgia affect your judgement.

I like the scream. It's otherwordly and appropriately startling; helps explains why all the tusken raiders were frightened off. I know it startled me when I first heard it, LOL. It doesn't even sound like it comes from a human at all; it sounds like it was enhanced by a wizard's magic, or a jedi's force capabilities. On the other hand, the original wolf howl was way too tame to have believably scared off 3 armed tusken raiders.

Yes, one of the few GL edits that I genuinely dislike.

I had been watching Silent Vader since 1983, and it works great for me. On the other hand, chatty Vader is more consistent not only with the prequels, but with ANH as well. I think that if Vader originally yelled no and then GL turned him silent, people would be complaining too. Silent or chatty, I don't mind either way.

The ONLY reason some people claim it's "unintentionally funny" is because they are too aware that it's dubbed in. The original, iconic scene is already seared into their memories. But if you show the new scene to someone who has never seen the original version, they wouldn't see anything humorous in it at all. They wouldn't even realize it wasn't part of the original version unless it was pointed out to them.

Meh... the only legitimate complaint is the question of how R2 fit into the hole. But honestly... that is such a tiny nitpick that 99.99% people will miss. I like the rocks, because it helps explain why the Tusken raiders didn't notice R2. In the original version, R2 was in plain sight some 20 feet from the Tusken Raiders. It was stupid that they didn't notice him.

Another of GL's edits that I dislike.

Meh. Nitpicky stuff. Either way works fine with me.

So I assume you disapprove of Ian Mcdiarmid's appearance on ESB as well? After all, that edit was disrespectful towards the old lady with monkey eyes.

Personally, I liked seeing Hayden in RotJ very much. Probably because I enjoyed the prequels, and I actually liked and felt sorry for Anakin in the prequels. Thus, seeing him in his prime for the goodbye scene was heart warming. Alas, angry fans despise Hayden and the character he played in the prequels. Seeing him again would make their blood boil instead. Fortunately for me, Lucas is making these changes for the fans that actually enjoyed all his Star Wars films. He's not making them for angry people that despise the other half of his Star Wars saga.

It's a good thing that fans of Titanic aren't like the fans of Star Wars. Otherwise, they would lambast James Cameron for turning Rose into a young woman again after her death. They'd prefer to keep things logical, and have an 80-year old hag dance with the ghost of a young Leonardo DiCaprio. Yeah, I'm sure that would've been a hit in the theaters.

Anakin was young again for that exact same reason Rose was young again. Nitpicky loopholes be damned; if people liked these characters, then the emotional weight of seeing them young again outweighs the nitpicky stuff. As for the people that despised these characters... well, I don't think Lucas cares about what those people think. That much is obvious.

Well, I like have to both versions on the Blu-ray set. There's really no reason not to include both, it's fun to compare numerous differences and such. The Yoda change, like most of you guys mentioned, is a lot better than that puppet so I approve on that.

Right now only 3 days of data have been released. Next week will be telling as SW will have had an actual full week of sales to chart. I would still like to see the numbers of how it sold though.

They are also only counting the complete saga, as the OT and PT were counted seperately. If you counted the seperate trilogies as 1/2 units each, and included them with the complete saga, it would be much higher.

Also a good point. As a total, I really wonder how much they all sold on Blu day one - as far as individual units go, I mean.

Never noticed before on my dvd of ANH but see in the blu that after the characters escape the garbage masher, Leia does a boob adjustment Also, the harness straps in the snow speeder cockpits are partly made from bubble wrap

New here, not sure how much I'll be around, but wanted to add a comment to this historic and long thread. yup, read a lot of it, skimmed a lot too. Bought the CS on Friday at HMV, cost more but the closest Best Buys/Future Shops are two hour bus trips there and back. Enjoying the set very much.
