Anything is better then the BTTF packaging, I am almost ashamed to display it on my shelf. Lord of the Rings EE is definitely my favorite packaging with Alien Anthology/Star Wars coming in second.

That's a really amazing price for Alien Anthology. Now they come in amaray cases in a slipbox right?
Last time I looked instore (about a week ago) It's a single case that holds all the discs. Much thinner than the first run UK packaging, and I think probably thinner than the US book too.

Yes, I do agree with this. There's no reason to harass her like that. And THAT kind of negatively isn't going to do anything to help the cause of people who don't like the changes.

I know right!

If someone spoke to your daughter the way they have been abusing Katie I'd be completely pissed off with the fan base and just want them to Eff themselves.

Leave GL alone as far as the personal comments too, IMO. Criticize his decisions, his work, but the personal attacks are not classy.

I had to take the BTTF situation (more or less) into my own hands. Even the "corrected" packaging that is functionally superior still looks like absolute crap IMO. They are my favorite movies, and I really wanted them in a nice box set with each movie in it's own individual case.

So, I downloaded some custom covers that someone who posts here in the custom covers made, and made a few personal modifications to them for my own personal preference (and no, per the rules of conduct of custom cover designing, I will not redistribute the changed versions I made since it's still mostly that person's work) And I made a slip-box to put them all in:

[Show spoiler]

They actually contain the US Blu-Rays, the UK Blu-Rays (because I also got the tin set from the UK for all of the "swag" that comes with it), and a set of the original DVDs (I didn't bother putting the DC discs in there since they can only be used once).

I'm more or less going to do something similar with Star Wars. I already downloaded a bunch of custom cover options that people made and posted in the custom thread. I have one set in particular that I liked, and I've already printed up the covers for the 6 movies.

Temporarily I put those covers into some older cases that I had actually "retired" (those older Elite cases with the 'chalky' looking BD Logo) that I still had laying around. A few of them are 2 disc cases, so for now I just put the 3 bonus discs in the same cases as some of the movies.

My plan is to eventually place a big order for a bunch of cases (which I'm just holding off on right now due to the cost, but plan to within the next couple/few months if possible) since I need/want some for some other purposes. I am going to put each movie in a 3-disc case so that I can put the 2-disc individual DVDs of all 6 movies in with the Blu-Rays. Then for the bonus features, I plan to get a 6 disc case, put all 3 BD bonus discs in there, the Empire of Dreams DVD disc, the Story of Star Wars DVD (which I got from Wal-Mart as an exclusive with the Ep III DVD), and the Star Wars Musical Journey disc.

And I want to make some kind of slip box for it. I'm not sure how yet. I may attempt to make it out of some kind of thin wood since it will have to hold 7 cases.

I'm not a big fan of LOTR in general (I don't hate them, but they aren't my favorites), but from the images that I've seen, the EE packaging looks really cool. I will likely get it when/if I ever find it on a good sale. I already have the individual theatrical discs from when they were on sale around black friday last year.

Aliens, if I ever get it (also a series that I'm not a huge fan of, but don't hate either), I'll probably end up doing custom packaging for those as well, but likely won't go all out since I don't care as much for the series.

IGN have become one of the worst sell out gaming sites on the net. I used to love them for their well informed unbiased reviews not only for games but DVDs too. Now they just arent worth using bandwidth on.

Advertising checks roll in, 9.0 reviews roll out. Sad, but true.

IGN has been a shill site for quite some time now IMO. Gamespot was getting bad for a while after they canned half their old staff (who went on to make Giant Bomb), but they have regained some credibility in the last year or two.

The review in general isn't bad. It's just you'd think they'd actually bother to check things like this better.

But thats whats made them such a poor site over the years. They have taken on more and more departments and have expanded into prety much every area such as gadgets/tv/lifestyle. etc. etc. That the stuff they were best at has suffered due to lack of actualy researching a subject rather than just copy paste a press release.

I actually think it was a pretty spot on review. The only mistake they made was on the bonus disc being included on the separate trilogies.....

An 8/10 was kind of a low score.

Ya Carrie Fisher looked great in Empire. Even if she was coked out of her mind for the whole movie...

If someone sees racism in an innocent movie like that it usually says a lot more about the person who states that opinion than it says about the actual movie. Basically it says the person in question distinguishes characters by race rather than by their individuality. In essence: it often reveals that the person who brought forth the racism-accusation is a racist him/herself and is unable to look past such antiquated categories.

Jedi Rocks: utter crap. Doesn't fit the scene, doesn't fit the universe. It just doesn't fit. Period.

New song at end of Return of the Jedi replacing Nyub Nyub: utter crap. For the same reasons as with Jedi Rocks.

Hayden ghost: Unnecessary and disrespectful of Shaw.

Obi Wan scream: Unnecessary and ridiculous.

Han vs. Greedo: Unnecessary and realized with a bad CGI animation. It's okay in its tweaked version, though. They almost shoot at the same team and considering the usual human reaction time of 1 second Han shoots Greedo before he even could have realized that Greedo shot at him as well.

Darth Noooooo!: Unnecessary and with bad voice acting, which makes a dramatic and iconic scene unintentionally funny.

R2-D2 hiding behind CGI rocks: Unnecessary and creating a continuity error with subsequent shots where the rocks are gone again. Not to mention that R2 couldn't have squeezed himself into that hole.

A New Hope Jabba: Unnecessary and redundant, because they are bascially having the same dialogue again that Han and Greedo had only minutes before.

Lightsaber colors: I like the restoration of the white cores in Jedi, but I don't mind the inconsistencies in Hope too much. The pink light saber in Empire even makes a bit of sense: red light saber + blue smoke/ambient light = pink.

Blinking Ewoks: An actual improvement. Looks good.

Phantom Menace CGI Yoda: Since the puppet was atrocious and didn't look anything like Yoda: excellent change.

A New Hope Stormtrooper "bonk sound" when he hits the head: I like it. It's pretty funny and also explains why they leave that trooper behind to guard some harmless droids. Also I like how they mirrored that bonk in Clones when Jango hits his head on the door of Slave One, suggesting that this particular storm trooper might actually be a Jango clone.

Also let me add:

Bigger door at Jabbas Palast: Unnecessary and combined with a very unnatural digital zoom downright distracting. Also, it creates another continuity error that wasn't there before.

Yes, prior 20 1997, you could hear a slight "tap"

They didn't add the full blown "bonk" until the 1997 SE
