Aunt Beru's voice wasn't dubbed in first run, is that correct?
I'm sure this has been said before, but I wish someone at Fox would have the stones to say, we own the film, we are not in business w Mr. Lucas anymore, his Disney deal was a giant middle finger to us, costing us billions, so we don't have to appease him, we will do as we please with the first film... |

See now you guys can't even decide what is the ORIGINAL version you feel you are entitled to have restored and remastered for you on Blu-ray. Star Wars is available in many formats. So even IF the UOT comes out you will still be here to complain it's not the audio mix YOU heard in theaters almost 40 years ago with the 6 missing frames from the end of reel 4 and the giant scratch when Luke takes off his stormtrooper helmet.

Being antagonistic, yet again, is the sure fire way to engage and persuade. Nicely done.
![]() At least for me the most pragmatically viable choice would be the 1993 LD versions to be restored in 4K as the utmost optimal rendition for "UOT" purists. Best regards, KvE |

For me, the proper restoration of the UOT isn't about my personal preference… it's about preserving our film heritage. The original 1977 STAR WARS, complete with original ground-breaking visual effects (many of which have been outright replaced with digital effects after 1997), is as important to the history of cinema as the original "King Kong", "Citizen Kane" or "2001: A Space Odyssey".
Ironically, the 1980's George Lucas who railed against the evils of colorization would have agreed, except that he's too close to the material to appreciate its place in the pantheon of "movies that changed the world (for better and for worse)". It's easy to forget now, with the deluge of effects-heavy flicks in our multiplexes, but there was nothing like STAR WARS before STAR WARS. It was a lightning bolt out of the blue (although it wore its influences on its sleeve: 1930's serials, Kurosawa, etc.) And those original award-winning visual effects made for the 1977 release were hard to do. Spacecraft had never swooped and dived across the screen like that before. And now many of those historic shots are relegated to the dump-heap of history, covered over by modern computer-generated imagery that in no way reflects the time in which the classic 1977 flick was made. I just want a release that respects the original movie's place in history. And there's nothing wrong with the fact that Lucas made his new versions; more power to him. But fans like me -- who grew up with these movies in the theaters -- want the CHOICE to watch the original in a quality edition; the same way we're given the choice of which BLADE RUNNER or which CLOSE ENCOUNTERS we want to watch. Hope this help clarify things a bit for you, Dave the Minion. |

There is a fundamental difference between the primary creator making changes to their work versus a third party deciding to change things for commercial pandering.
As it has been discussed a bit recently, SW is a rather unique project in comparison to BR and CE3K. Those two examples have rather distinct unique cuts whereas SW:ANH there are numerous sound effect differences between the various, theatrical and home release, mixes. Now some of that could mitigated with various mixes presented, except for VFX issues/errors, but in the case of ESB it has a few various editorial and vfx differences between the exhibition releases. I am not outright disagreeing with the sentiment of "UOT" but as I commented before the target of the original versions is rather amorphous in nature. That is why the community that desires a high quality release of the OT needs to decide on what is the most realistic standard version that constitutes as the "UOT". Practically the most viable versions that likely should be settled on are the 93 LD versions for commercial release. Best regards, KvE |

People want the Star Wars they grew up on, the versions on VHS, Laserdisc and cable TV in the 80's/90's. Since there were so many tweaks while the movies were in theaters I think it would be best to go with the settled home video versions before the SEs. I also don't think any pre-SE tweaks are remotely on the same level. The reason many dislike the SEs is because they change not only effects and sounds here and there, but the tone of the movies. That comedic and goofy CGI drive-up to Mos Eisley changes the feeling of Star Wars a lot, which is something erasing wires or improving matte paintings doesn't really do. No one complained when Star Trek did the latter for their BD releases of TNG. |

I am not even a purist when it comes to Star Wars really. While I would like all versions I would be happy with the 1993 (no matter what color timing used) and at least a 5.1 sound mix. I just don't want the changes and add ons. Blade Runner The Final Cut is my favorite film of all time and I usually like extended cuts or directors cuts more than the theatrical versions but just not Star Wars. Of course if all of the versions were released most of us would be watching the films and not even in be in this again.

I'd love to hear the 6 track, stereo, and mono lossless on the same disc, but realistically if they took the theatrical 6 track and created a 5.1 lossless that would be fine. I'd love to just see the original Star Wars in the highest quality without the 97 to 2011 noticable revisionist changes.
