If it's Shout factory, there's a 50/50 chance of at least one audio track being bordered somehow.

It did (and lossless).

As for the quality, take what you can get, it is the ORIGINAL mono mix after all.

As for its inclusion for *their* 4K, I'm certain Scream will give us the correct and original theatrical Mono.

I don't think that was a joke sadly. It's some shots from their fanedit.

Yes, which came out after the initial botched 5.1 downmix from Anchor Bay’s 2013 release, which if I recall correctly was marketed as “original mono”. Hard to believe, if Shout intends to include the original mono (and god only knows why they wouldn’t) that they’d make Anchor Bay’s 2013 mistake, after they were the ones to rectify it in their 2014 box set. Someone please correct me if I’m attributing the crime to the wrong entity.

As for the desaturation, the 2013 release was the one with that look, mar3o, so wishing for representations of the 1999 THX DVD and the 2013 would cover those bases. I happen to like the saturated colors on the 2007 blu ray myself.

Wow, that de-saturated master was from 2013? For some reason I thought that was more recent. I guess because the UHD used the same master.

Well some elements (maybe not the OCN, but possibly a print or interpositive) were at least around in the late 90s for Anchor Bay to transfer, because the transfer used for those scenes since is obviously taken straight from film, and not some old 80s tape master. They actually blend surprisingly well with the HD footage if you’re not thinking about it (there is quite a bit of dirt though). Unless the footage has been trashed since, I find that hard to believe.

And that title card can easily be reconstructed.

Yeah, Scream was responsible for the box set containing the corrected mono track. They were also the ones that put pressure on Anchor Bay to do the replacement program for Returns.

I was actually kind of surprised AB never bothered just putting out the disc from the box set on its own rather than using their 2013 disc since they were the ones that actually did the disc replication and distribution for the box set.

I'm sure by this point, I've bought the original so many times I could've afforded to pay off my student loans.

Don’t worry, we are on the final physical media format (UHD). After that everything goes digital.

I found this webpage to be very helpful for keeping straight all the variations amongst the different releases. (Although he’s wrong, or maybe just a bit imprecise, when he talks about the mono mixes featured on the 2013 & 2014 discs.) I just wish I knew what color timing the original Media Home Entertainment VHS used. That’s how I first saw it, when I was in 3rd grade and my parents rented it for me (LOL) in 1987. I got my own copy of it soon thereafter and must have watched it 50 times, but I can’t remember if the colors were as saturated as the 2007 Anchor Bay BD.

The Media VHS releases, Criterion laserdiscs and original Anchor Bay DVD/VHS releases all used their own variation of the transfer, but the colour timing on them is pretty similar.

In 2003, Anchor Bay released the 'Divimax' transfer with the contrast boosted that's been panned by most people. The 2013 colour timing was approved by Dean Cundey, but has the large blue push.

The German and Australian releases also utilized their own separate transfers/colour timing, as well.

Having seen all of them, I think the 1998 THX release looks the best - though since it's only ever been in 480i, it's not really good for current standards.
