Yes I know that. Any reason why he chose a different method for Rogue Nation than Fall Out? It seems the VAR was important for McQuarrie on Fallout I'm just curious as to why the effort wasn't the same for Rogue Nation

They just fancied shaking things up a bit, plus it's good for marketing. maybe after doing one of these already he felt more comfortable to try some new techniques for the franchise. There's a few things in this MI movie that we've never had before in a MI movie.

McQ only agreed to come back for Fallout if he could make it feel like a different director did it, to maintain the whole "each movie gets a new director" thing with this franchise. So part of doing that was to get a different DP, and the nature of the HALO and chopper sequences meant they'd have to shoot digital anyway. If they're gonna change things up, why not go big?

I've tied for GP and MI:1. Has much to do with GP's boring climax after stunning act 2 (Dubai desert storm). from Best to Worst: 6>5>4=1>3>2 |

Just to go back to this point: McQ wanted Fallout to feel like a different film from its predecessor, as if it was from a different director even, so he changed over his DP and most of his crew (though still used his Navy SEAL brother for technical advice) and decided to go for some standout IMAX set pieces shot on digital as 15-perf IMAX was too unwieldy for what they wanted to do. It was still shot primarily on film though as that's Tom Cruise's decision as much as McQ's, Cruise being a huge fan of film as well, though when he works with Joe Kosinski then he relents to him shooting digital e.g. Sony F65 on Oblivion and Sony Venice on Top Gun 2.

Oh, that. Yeah, I reported half a dozen of those the other day, that account was promptly banned...apparently they've got enough time to create another account and go at it again?
Small things amuse small minds I guess. |

Not sure if this has been discussed (couldn't find it), but has the 1080 blu-ray (not the 4K) been remastered in MI-1? I have not switched over to 4K, yet, nor have I bought the current blu-ray of MI-1 because of the reviews.
So . . . does this new 1080 blu-ray (not the 4K) look better than the old release? |

Get a cheap UHD player and downscale. That way you can enjoy new remasters and then when you do upgrade your panel the battle is half fought.
