That's a shame, I'd really like a better Mission Impossible blu ray. I'll never upgrade to 4K

I can see not getting in early, but soon enough every TV will be 4k and players will be $50. Why they hell not do it at that point?

I don't understand the never mentality. This isn't like speakers or an amp used as separates where with care and build quality you can rock it for 20+ years...

You would have to really go out of your way not to naturally transition to display tech that is 4K in another 5 or so when your 1080p shit gets dim, has dead pixels and color issues, or starts glitching.

Ok I'll rephrase. I'll never pay extra to get 4k. The increase in res isn't something I'm particularly bothered about. 1080 is plenty fine for me. I'm much more concerned about the plot and acting in a film rather than being able to read what's on the side of a can one of the characters is drinking out of.

I’ll never understand why so many people are under the impression that “plot and characters” are the end-all-be-all of what makes a movie good. Film is an audiovisual art form. Visuals and audio are really, really important to cinematic language. It seems weird to me that so many people who claim to love movies are so dismissive of the technical quality of a film’s presentation. It matters.

I said it's what matters to me, not what matters period. The Marvel franchise has proved your comment right - people keep flooding to see what amounts to me as a load of fireworks and noise. The younger generation seem to enjoy it though.

Is that really so difficult to understand ? I understand the attraction of the fireworks.

Yeah, speaking as someone who despises Marvel, that’s not at all what I meant.

I totally agree with you on this. But I'm a person all about the AQ/PQ But more so AQ. I love the way movies sound especially when they use ALL speakers. I don't have height speakers and i'm fine with that. Movies people hate I love because of the AQ. More so the BASS

Movies that have a dumb plot but has outstanding AQ/PQ I like. It may be a movie I don't watch often but looks good, sounds good its a keeper.

AQ/PQ are vital in a movie. If you don't care about that, go read a novel then. Movies are an audio/visual experience first and foremost

I was more aiming my comments at having the same film in greater and greater resolution. Holds no interest for me. I project all my films anyhow, and I am already at the limit I'd ever need for that.

I don’t understand this. If you’re projecting, then I’d imagine you have a pretty large display area, which, if anything, means a resolution increase should be even MORE important.

To a point yes. And 1080 is plenty fine for that

I project on 100" and I see a net improvement from 1080p to 2160p, more so than on my 55" TV

There will be an increased resolution yes, but my definition of "improvement" is likely different to yours. And I certainly wouldn't pay to upgrade my set up (and media) to 4k for that very reason.

But it doesn't help the fact that the Misdion impossible blu ray is a very bad transfer, so I'll just have to make do with that.

So on the one hand, UHD doesn't offer enough of an upgrade for you to consider it worthwhile.

And on the other hand, you're disappointed that the Blu-ray isn't nearly as good as the UHD.

Have I got that right?

The blu ray is a sub standard blu ray, if it was as good as other blu ray transfers I'd be happy

- MI Fallout
- MI Rogue Nation
- MI Ghost Protocol
- MI 1
- MI 3
- MI 2

That's how I would personally rank them. They are all enjoyable films and worth watching though IMO.
