I could care less about rating logos anymore. All that matters is that the disc is good.

I'd be jealous of people who have the Arrow if it weren't for the fact it looks like ass just as much as my Anchor Bay does, just in a different way.

The only real plus is having slightly less dirt and scratch removal but it’s not enough justification for myself to go out and find one. I’m contempt with the AB Blu and the 4-disc DVD set for the time being.

No way I was ever going to drop $100+ or even $60+ on it. Anyone who does that is kinda an idiot.

Granted, I could've been a little patient to keep an eye out for an even cheaper copy (fat chance), but at least I didn't break a bank getting a hold of it nonetheless.

That said, imagine how amazing all three cuts could look if 2018 Arrow got a chance to revisit it, but for early Arrow, at least it looks better than Day of the Dead.

Could anyone advise how the picture quality is on the Anchor Bay BD compared to the Italian releases?

Make your own mind up. The Italian looks like ass, that is my non-expert opinion.

I'm hoping that there will be some distributor company to come in and swoop up the movie since it seems that according to Mr. Rubinstein, "Rather than creating a program, I’m having a one-at-a-time rollout", which although sounds almost romantic, is simply a terrible idea considering how much money could be made from a proper theatrical re-release, especially with all of the die-hard Romero fans who are just salivating for the next "definitive" release of the movie.

I am convinced that Rubinstein has no clue what to do with Dawn of the Dead. Or Martin for that matter. People might lose interest in this if Rubinstein goes for the "one-at-a-time rollout" path as opposed to something like a Fathom Event.
Help us, Janus Films. You're our only hope.

He knows exactly what he's doing, he's waiting for a big payday to come along to bail out his grand 3D adventure (which is about 10 years too late as far as the recent 3D boom is concerned). But no-one's biting and he's reduced to having the movie play in festivals and other events, it's gon' be a looooong time before that reduces his arrears.

On that note, I'd just like to ask the people of this thread, what are your peoples' thoughts on the now upcoming French Cult Collector's Edition of Dawn of the Dead by ESC Editions?

I have high hopes for this since Rubinstein is clearly doing jack-diddly-squat & the Italian 4K release isn't the best looking for any of the cuts.

Every time a new set comes out I just cross my fingers that it will be good, thats all I can do Every set thats come out has something majorly wrong with it.

Does that say 1 Blu-ray 3 DVD? Kinda says it all, if so.

With news today that there is a proper sequel to Night of the Living Dead (rather than in-universe films like Dawn and Day), I'm assuming we may get to see a new printing of All three films in 2019 or 2020.

Apparently, that was the original plan for the bare-minimum funding, but since they've hit nearly 50,000 euros the set has been upgraded quite majorly...

Quote:
Blu-ray 1 :
  • The film ZOMBIE European version, 119 minutes, new high definition master, French version and original version with French subtitles, 1978
  • Audio comments from the 5 main actors
  • Audio commentary by George A. Romero and Tom Savini
  • Audio Feedback from Producer Richard Rubinstein
  • Audio commentary by composer Claudio Simonetti
  • Unpublished presentation by Julien Sévéon, around the Zombie universe
  • Unpublished presentation by Bertrand Bonnello to the audience of the Cinémathèque

Blu-ray 2 :
  • ZOMBIE version director's cut US movie , 127 minutes, new high definition master, original version with French subtitles, 1979
  • Interview with Dario Argento, Claudio Argento, Alfredo Cuomo, Claudio Simonetti
  • The special effects of Zombie, by Benoît Lestang (17'45 "- VF)
  • "About Romero" by Jean-Pierre Putters (18 ')
  • Making of (7 ')

Blu-ray 3 :
  • The film ZOMBIE long version presented at the 1978 Cannes Film Festival, 139 minutes, new high definition master, French version and original version with French subtitles, 1978
  • Interview with George A. Romero "The Zombies of Romero" by Linda Tahir and Christophe Champclaux (26 ')
  • Analysis of the montage of Zombie, by Eric Dinkian: why two versions of the film (16'43 '' - VF)

Blu-ray Bonus :
  • The dead will walk, (75 '), 2004
  • Documentary: "Document of the Dead" (83'57 '')
  • (plus 2h surprise bonus spread over 4 blu-ray - BEARING 8)
So uh, yeah, high hopes for this. They got so much funding that they're actually going to do a 4K rescan of the European version of the film (go figure) along with an open-matte version of it. Considering how I'm an Argento Cut fan, this excites me since the Midnight Factory release was a bit lackluster in some aspects.

Here's my expectation for that: Night of the Living Dead re-print, Day of the Dead re-print and Zach Snyder's Dawn of the Dead re-print

Don't count on it. The rights to Night of the Living Dead (Image Ten), Dawn of the Dead (Richard P Rubinstein) and Day of the Dead (Blairwood Entertainment) are each controlled by separate entities.

Note the following passage:

Quote:
Written by John A. Russo and directed by George A. Romero, Night of the Living Dead created the foundation for the five Return of the Living Dead films that gave us Tarman and his famous catch phrase 'More Brains!', popularizing brain eating zombies and defining the modern dark comedy-horror genre in the process. Romero's Trilogy of the Dead series also owes its roots to the classic.
Top billing for Russo and a strong emphasis for the Return of the Living Dead films suggests to me that this was and is another John A. Russo pet project with little to no involvement from Romero.
