I just got in one today and am eagerly awaiting to set everything up. wondering if anyone uses the bi-amp option? i have the basic 5.1, don't really see the need to upgrade to 7.1 right now. My speakers are klipsch rf-25 series. thanks!!

thanks!!! i will try doing the bi-amp thing. yeah, i have heard great things about the 805. i was thinking recently about going seperates but just dont have the time, money or room for all that now. sounds like the 805 will handle most anything you throw at it, i dont have a dedicated theater room (big den is all) so i think its going to work out nice and with the price of the 805 its just makes all the better.

Wow!...No need to biamp those Klipsch speakers. I have demonstrated these speakers with an iPod and mini cable stripped and split at the end so the pos and neg wires are out and I get great volume. Only biamp if you are interested in having the skin peeled away from your face.

I think your thinking of bridging my friend. yes technically bi-amping does give you more power but that's not what its for. bi-amping dedicates a separate amp for the highs and lows on your speakers. when bi-amped your highs are clearer and your lows are lower. it just gives you an all around better performance of your speakers.

dblackgt, thanks for the info. yeah, power does not concern me as much as the cleaner sound. its not big deal for to do this anyway since i have extra speaker wire and no need for the extra surrounds.

No problem. Yea the 805 doesnt have any problem with bi-amping with its huge power supply and all. And if you got the wire, your speakers are capable of bi-amping, and your not going to use 7.1 then theres no reason why you shouldnt bi-amp. Good luck with it and let me know what you think when you do it. Be sure to listen to just 2 channel music before and after...I think you'll like what you hear.

cool, i like the new klipsch icons you got. saw them at a magnolia and they seem nice. what yamaha were you using before? i still have the rx-v2600, its been pretty good for the most part but a little difficult osd to deal with. im hoping to have some time this weekend to setup the 805 and see the difference.

Hi DBlackGT,

Curious are you using different Bass/Treble settings when you bi-amp? Or setting different cut off settings for the highs and lows? My speakers are capable but I never bother to try it out figuring the internal crossover is fine and I have more than adequate power with the 805 driving my Energy RC-30's.

The first Yamaha that I had was the RX-V2500. Then I got the Onkyo 805 and about a week after I got it I found the RX-V1800 for $500 so I bought it, tested it out against the Onkyo and found that I like the Onkyo better so I returned the 1800. I think you'll find that the 805 is awesome. I am an Onkyo fan for life now because of my experience with it.

No I don't think any of the settings change when bi-amping. To be quite honest I do not know what the onkyo does as far as adjusting the cutoffs once bi-amped. I ran the audessey setup again after bi-amping and figured that the onkyo would determine the best bass/treble and cutoff settings. However, heres an interesting clipping I found from a bi-amping article about the speakers internal crossovers:

"Passive crossover networks found in consumer speakers waste an enormous amount of power. The often complex network is made up of large coils, chokes, capacitors and resistors. The circuit splits the full range signal into different frequencies (low, mid and high) appropriate for the different drivers in the speaker. Further, a crossover network compensates for efficiency differences in the drivers; woofers demand mode power than midrange drivers which in turn demand more power than tweeters, etc. Further, each of the drivers has different sensitivities, with some requiring far more (of far less) power than other drivers in the same speaker system. In a passive crossover, the excess power not required is dumped into resistors and burned off as heat. This makes for an incredible waste of power.

in addition, passive crossovers do much to degrade the signals that pass through them, and wastes a good deal of amplifier power, so bi-amping is an attractive idea."

So this is why I say yes it technically gives you more power, but it also is there to give you improved bass and treble.

Thanks!

Very interesting. Though I don't see how bi-amping would bipass the crossover on my speakers unless I modify the speakers.

Well maybe one day I'll try it out, but I'm a bit lazy now to go through the work of bi-amping them.

Yea you should notice a difference and if for some reason you dont you still know that your speakers and amps are running much more efficiently now.

By the way nice projector...my dad has the same one. So bomb for the price

I use it to Bi-amp my 6 ohm fronts, no shortage of power and no problems what so ever.

Amazing receiver for the money.

These are the exact ones I am using. They are a great deal for being premade, 12 gauge wire with banana plugs.

I don't know if the 805 handles bi-amping the same way as the 606 or not, but in the 606 the front speaker outs handle the high frequencies and the rear speaker outs handle the low frequencies. There is no way, that I have found anyway, to designate the cutoff frequencies yourself as far as the highs/tweeters go. You can still use the main menu to set your low cutt-off.
