...how has there not been a biopic about the Apollo 11 mission?

Edit...looks like Ryan Gosling may be playing Neil Armstrong.

I just bought/saw that one from the last flash sale.

I went into it for all the space footage (which is fabulous). I find myself more attracted to the way the film humanizes the astronauts, effectively telling their story in addition to their personalities. Thus, I think the film has heart, certainly more heart than most other astronaut movies I know of (although many capture the same type of levity).

So, yep, I'm glad to have it now.

Holy crap, I didn't even know this existed until now. It sounds like it'll be quite fitting in my collection next to Pink Flamingos, Salo, and the Human Centipede trilogy.

What can I say? I'm a glutton for punishment.

I don't recall Criterion releasing PINK FLAMINGOS on laserdisc. I think they may have been the label that released Waters' POLYESTER with the scratch-and-sniff Odorama cards.

It had been released on LD by Vestron, through Image in the mid-80s, but Criterion released a 25th Anniversary LD in the late 90s.

And, yes, they had (earlier) released Polyester on LD.

The Hitchcock collection has to be my favorite Criterion release. I have it sitting alongside my other Hitchcock collection book, and get a great deal of use out of both sets.

Dang I wish they would upgrade Sweet Movie. Bloody love that film Criterion need more transgressive cinema! (and no, not the overhyped and poorly made THC).

Really want Pink Flamingos in the collection!

There are a couple of asian movie I wish Criterion would release since I don't think anyone else would. I've never quite understood what the requirements Criterion had to pick their movies, except that they are some of the best cinema in the world and they even release it on bluray and I've always thought these were excellent films the world should be able to watch.

The two dramas from Hideaki Anno, Shiki-Jitsu, which has all but disappeared from the face of the earth, one of, if not my favorite film of all time, right up there with In the Mood For Love, Hamlet from 1948, and Amores Perros. His other film,Love & Pop, a previously released released movie by Kino international which isn't on their site anymore and, again, has almost disappeared from the face of the earth.

Zhang Yang's first film, Spicy Love Soup, which apparently only existed on VHS and limited DVD release but I saw it on an independent channel, IFC or Sundance, so I know it was available once.

Okaeri, another first, this one from director Makoto Shinozaki and a movie I'd wager real money no one here will be able to find since it only exists a laserdisc and VHS. Midnight Eye had a VHS in French but I saw a movie rip on YouTube with English subs once so it existed in some format.

The last one would be Mary Is Happy, Mary Is Happy. I don't understand why this movie is impossible to buy from the US, but I've heard so many good things and yet I've had to go find it on YouTube.

If I had a voice in the matter these would be the movies I'd add to their list of works, well, these are the rarest movies I'd add since I know there'd be few other companies that would publish them and they are some of the best films I've ever seen but almost no one seems to know they existed. These would be the ones I'd ask them to bring to Blu Ray. Except for Amores Perros they've pretty much already added all of my favorites to their library.

yes let's cross the fingers, tongue (?), toes, tentacles and everthing possible for a blu-ray upgrade of "Sweet Movie".
I really love Carole Laure

by the way do Criterion still owns the right for Sweet Movie ?
I happened to download a 720p (which looks great) with English subtitles ingrained (for the non-English parts). But it doesn't open with the Criterion logo (source is probably iTunes US ?)
I sill have the Criterion DVD (beautiful artwork by the way).

When We Left Earth:The NASA Missions is another good documentary on the space program.

And, you're somewhat in luck, as Criterion will be releasing 5 of their films in the UK in April.
Ah cool, thanks - was not aware that they were coming to UK.

The Great Dictator is wonderful as well. As are Modern Times and City lights... heck they are all pretty amazing.

I watched Paris Belongs to Us last night. I literally have no idea what to think of it.

There were times when I couldn't take my eyes off the screen and times when I couldn't keep my eyes open. However, there's definitely something sinister and foreboding underlying the entire movie, particularly in terms of political ideologies and fears at the time, such as communism.

I think I want to watch it again.

That they are. I don't really have to mention The Gold Rush as well (my personal favorite of his so far), but I guess I did anyways.

The Gold Rush (1925) is my favorite Chaplin film that I've seen to date.

I was really knocked over by Limelight after seeing it for the first time the other day, though. That film was such a pleasant surprise.

Funny, Gold Rush and Modern Times are mine and my sons (2 and 5 years old) 2 favorite Chaplins. I totally forgot about Limelight! However; does it have as much slapstick as his earlier films as that is what the little ones like?

They really like the scene from Gold Rush with the cabin on the mountain and the gents going in and out of the doors.
