Huh, Vader's saber looks pink/magenta again in this clip.. But the images from Lucasfilm detailing the change show a very proper red color to the shot. I don't get it.

If I am not mistaken, uncompressed 4:2:0 1080p should be about 596.6 Mbps (1920 x 1080 x 24000/1001 x 12 bits per pixel), so at ~25-35 Mbps Blu-ray is hardly uncompressed

Still, it's better than 3-4 Mbps web video and probably better than many JPEG compressed stills.

Good news about the work going into these movies. I hope some time and effort was put into the Obi Wan/Vader ANH duel light sabre issues. Sounds like they are being very thorough. Encouraging.

Would it be fair to say that this is the type of release Lucas wanted to do after he was finished with Episode III, instead of the '04 box set?

From all the info we've been getting the last couple of days, it seems like this was going to be his initial plan after the Episode III DVD hit in '05. He just decided to wait for HD to do it.

Adam over at hometheaterforum.com has stated that they'll be no DVD version of this box set or of these 2011 version of the films. It's Blu Ray and that's it.

I have Avatar "The Collector's Edition" on BD, but ROTS is a film I actually love, unlike Avatar, which is totally unoriginal and 1-D when it comes to story, but I like the message, despite being old, and I love sci-fi and fantasy movies....
Transformers? No, I don't want my brain to melt away.

My statement wasn't supposed to be taken by absolute standards, as it is impossible to compare different films with one another anyways, but I wanted to express that ROTS is going to look drop dead gorgeous on BD.

I tend to think/hope that everything will look much better than what we are seeing in these pseudo-screenshots.
I see the new picture with Luke's saber being 'lighter' overall. The picture is not as dark (IMO). Anyone else see it that way?

It doesn't matter, it is not representative of the blu ray picture quality, just a mock up to show they understood the need to change Lukes sabre.

Enjoy!

Comparing this picture with the one of the 2004 Master given in the Save Star Wars website (http://savestarwars.com/specialeditionfail.html) reveals to me that the greenish tint in the shot has been fixed! Hopes are up for non-blue Tantive IV!

'The copious QC notes would identify subtle defects in the picture and sound. Most of the work done on Episodes IV, V and VI are subtle restorative touches -- the correction of blemishes and warping on the image, dirt removal from old transfers and such. Side-effects of the optical compositing process -- like the gray "garbage matte" boxes that occasionally surround the TIE fighters of Episode IV, for example, were reviewed on a case-by-case basis. And, like Episode I, there would be a few surprises that had remained hidden in the movies for decades.'

True, but I was just addressing what somone thought they were seeing identical pictures (except the saber) . I agree, they are probably the same 'promo' shots they let reviewers see last Friday.
