While I'm in, I'll watch those Criterion titles I'm interested in that are in 1080p but not on blu-ray (e.g., Scarlet Pimpernel), but that's it. If/when they're ever on blu-ray, I'll buy them in that format; preferably restored, but unrestored if no other option is available.

I like physical media. I don't like streaming. I doubt I'm alone.
It's not an either or choice. I buy Criterion Blu-Rays and UHDs, but I also subscribe to the Criterion channel. For less than $7.50 a month (I'm a charter subscriber) it's well worth it. It allows me to easily view Criterion releases to see which ones I'd like to add to my collection, along with other movies that will likely never be available in a physical format.

I was a charter subscriber to the Criterion Channel, but they made some change to their DRM that made it impossible for me to use their service. I kept getting an error message “Cannot play video - this device does not support secure video playback.” I updated my drivers and checked my cables, but nothing worked, so I canceled my subscription. It's a shame because when it worked the CC was a great deal.

I used to borrow Criterion DVDs and Blu-Rays from my local library all the time, until the Criterion Channel came along. I still borrow from the library occasionally, as the Channel doesn't have everything. But with the price of gas so high, it's cheaper to pay $7.50 a month (charter subscriber) for the Criterion Channel rather than borrow them from the library. Plus, I get to watch them whenever I want, not when they're available at the library.

That's a shame. Really. I'm not a tech guy, so I'm not sure what the problem is/was. I know not everyone has the same quality internet connection/access to the Criterion Channel. I'm just very happy that I have no issues. The channel is great.

That sucks. I wonder if it could have been an HDCP issue with your monitor?

I was recently considering getting the Godzilla set. But I've been watching the movies on the Criterion Channel, and I have not watched them since I was a kid. I just watched "Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster." Needless to say, I will not be buying the set.

Holy moly, these did not age well. They're, IMO, awful. I enjoy the original, but I don't like any of the sequels. Terrible. Just terrible. They are comical though, but I'm laughing at them, not with them.

With that said, I'm not trying to insult anyone who feels otherwise. I know that I enjoy movies that others hate. That's the way it is with any form of art.

It's great to have such easy access to these films on the Criterion Channel right now.

The cheese factor in most of the sequel Godzilla movies are their charm. LOL. I admit that I didn't buy it either because I really only love the first film and Mothra vs. Godzilla. I do love the MST3K treatments of Ebirah, Horror of the Deep AKA: Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster & Godzilla vs. Megalon. "He's got a tree! That's not the Godzilla we know!" I have a shirt with that on it.

Man, this thread sure has been places in the past two days.

On another note, I'm glad I decided to buy The Red Shoes, having long held stupid assumptions about what type of movie it was. Fantastic film, and at least to my eyes, it looked pretty damn good on UHD.

I have almost 400 films on my Criterion Channel watchlist, the idea of waiting to buy them all is absurd.

Can't they remove the original booklets and leaflets and replace them with copies? Or have a $10 fine for incomplete returns or something. I believe that's how much it costs to have a booklet replaced from Criterion.

Wow, this month is going by quickly, tomorrow is already the 15th. Felt like we just had announcements the other day.

Anyway, here are my predictions:

Chess of the Wind
Cure (4K?)
Pink Flamingos
The Sound of Metal
The Seventh Seal 4K

Honestly, even the other choices ended up being terrible, Pink Flamingos would more than make up for it. That being said, hopefully we get a little bit of everything genre and country wise.

Given the recent passing of Peter Bogdanovich, I wouldn't mind The Thing Called Love, although I'd bet that's a wish best suited for a Paramount thread. Oh. And maybe a Kris Kristofferson movie.

I hope we get another Godard upgrade. I really want 2 or 3 Things on HD.
