From looking at the current stadium, there is only room for one more retired number right now, in Monument Park, though I'm sure they can always make more room. But I don't know if they'll need more than 3 spots in the next 10-15 years. One thing that surprised me about Jeter was how tall he was. As a kid growing up with the mid/late 90's Yankees, he always seemed like the small guy on the team, but he's actually quite tall (6'3"). ![]() Sabathia is a monster though. He looks pretty heavy, and at 6'7" he must weigh a ton. |

Yankees fans, bring out the tissues.
Yankees haters, feel free to high-five each other. I think all the seats have now been removed. They might be doing some asbestos-cleanup work for a while, so it may appear as though the demolition stalls for a while, and then will suddenly pick back up. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Fenway has decent affordable pricing. Yankee Tickets skyrocketed with that new stadium. I haven't even made it to a game yet and that's rare for me. Then again...it takes me almost 3 hours to get there plus parking and gas...it's expensive.

ESPN has a report that Pedro Martinez could be signing with either the Cubs or Rays soon. As a Cubs fan I don't understand this at all. The Cubs starting pitching has been fantastic this year, they just don't have any offense to help them. On the other hand the Cubs relievers haven't been great, and bringing in a starter that can only go 5 innings is a horrible idea. I know the Cubs loving bringing in big names but if Martinez had anything left he'd be signed by now.
If anything they should be looking for offense, maybe bring back Mark DeRosa, since they were idiots to trade him in the first place. He can play 7 positions and doesn't complain, why get rid of a guy like that for prospects. I really don't know what's up with the Cubs offense, only Derrek Lee has been playing decent lately. They have plenty of good hitters but nobody can get it going. Kosuke is doing what he did last year, start off strong and then tail off. Soto's having a sophomore slump. Soriano is just awful, even Milton Bradley passed him in BA. The Cubs don't have a single starter with a batting average over .285. I just can't imagine the hitting coach is to blame but I agree that firing the coach was the correct solution. I honestly think when the Cubs play Detroit next week that Zambrano should bat during his start and any of their position players should take the day off. I even think Zambrano should be their DH in their other road AL games. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4267760 |

Agreed because now if they keep pedro as a starter then the bullpen who is a little shaky already has to carry him thru since he can only really go 4-6. |

Great come from behind win for the Cubs today. They were down 5-1 in the 8th and Lee had a 3-run homer, and Soto followed with a game-tying homer. Soriano had a walk-off single to win. Hope this gets the team going again, and it's nice to see Soriano and Soto get big hits. Quality start for Zambrano with 7 innings and 3 earned runs, but Marmol got shelled, giving up 2 runs in 0.2 innings.
In other Cubs news, their owners (Tribune) have started talking with another group about buying the team. Everyone thought that by now the Ricketts would have closed the sale but they are having trouble getting financing and their exclusive window has closed. Wish they'd just let Mark Cuban buy the team but baseball's cranky old owner's don't want someone like him. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4269936 |

So the Blue Jays beat up on the Rangers in Texas last week, then get swept at home by the Marlins and now the Blue Jays have just swept the defending champ Phillies in Philly!
Will the real Toronto Blue Jays please step forward!!! I guess when you have 4 rookie pitchers in your starting rotation and 1 reliever now as a starter things tend to go up and down. Just burns me as a fan who hasn't seen his team in the playoffs since 1993, this team is a couple vet pitchers(or pitchers on the DL) and a big booper away from being a great. This Yankees game is pretty funny.... or at least the crowd is.
The game was supposed to take place at 1pm, but it was raining. They figured they'd wait out the rain, since they obviously won't be playing the Nationals again this year, so it'd be hard to work in a make-up game. So 5.5 hours of a rain delay later, the game finally started. But most of the fans left. There appear to be 0 fans in the upper deck of the stadium (or the upper two decks, if you want to count the split deck as two), and literally no more than 10 people in the bleachers. The rest of the stadium is fairly empty as well. It's like watching the early 90's Yankees all over again. |

Negative....just after the 1st half of the inning they let everyone fill into the lower levels. They did it to thank the fans for staying 5+ hours. That's a long time to wait around and eat hot dogs. Ticks me off because I was planning on going today lol.

~~~~~ The play Harris made on A-Rod's drive out to the LF was one of the best plays I've seen made at YS this year. |
Gardener's play? ![]() Harris made an amazing catch as well. The game would have been a lot different had he not made that play. Last edited by sfmarine; 06-19-2009 at 12:57 AM. |
The Gardner play was pretty good, but a bit scary. I always thought those plexi-glass windows looked a bit dumb, because who cares about being able to see into the bullpen? Glad he seemed to be ok (based on not needing a stretcher, and seeming to be quite alert as they wheeled him off). |
Also, he wasn't benched, so the headline is misleading. He asked for a game or two off, because he said he was exhausted. Up until yesterday he started in every game since coming back from his hip surgery. |
