I took my kid. Well, almost 17-year-old son, so I'm not sure that counts. Anyway, my oldest daughter said she saw parents bringing kids that looked six and seven years old. I wouldn't take a kid under the age of 17 to the thing.

We took my 11 year old step daughter. No problems at all. It was actually quite a bit tamer than I expected.

Second time going today, and this time it was in IMAX. Such a great movie!
I think it is much more abusive to try and baby kids.

17 isn't really a kid anymore. More like a young adult. 5 or 6, though? No, I don't think they belong at that movie. Call me old fashioned.

My wife and I did our St Valentine's date seeing it, and we both loved it.
"Now, you are probably wondering why your boyfriend took you to this movie for a date? 'He is skewering this guy like a Shish-Kebab!' "

Hilarious movie, great action scenes, and Reynolds was obviously born to play Deadpool. Heck, he -is- Deadpool, no doubt about it.
We were also both pleased that the movie was not self censoring and was going for the Full Monty of R movies between language, nudity and extreme violence, as it suited the character very well.
It was also refreshing how self conscious and irreverencious the movie was, from the starting credits, to Reynolds' jokes about his Green Lantern stint or status of "sexiest man alive", or even lampooning Jackman.

Now about the trailers shown before the movie, the audience was very muted about BvS (seems to take itself way too seriously and seem CGI ridden), and I'm downright scared about Apocalypse. It looks terrible imo (which, strangely enough, seems to be taking the exact same direction BvS does: overly serious, bloated and CGI fest. Wtf happened to Stinger? Ah well, it's only a trailer, so we'll see).

The cameo by Lee was both hilarious and surprising (due to the location, but it was all in good fun).

If I had to find a negative, it would probably be that the scenario is very by the number for an origin movie, and that the villain is basically a henchman on steroids (decent screen presence from Gina Carano though), but all of that is drowned in its own blood by an overbearing presence (in a good way) by Deadpool which changes completely the dynamic and tone of the movie. I'm not sure we've ever seen a single character carry so much on himself in any movie (at least a Super Hero one, though Deadpool would take offense to that label), transforming what would have normally been a B- run of the mil action movie into a completely crazy riff on an R rated Starlord on crack.

Kudos to Fox, Marvel and Ryan Reynolds for making it happen.

4.5/5, rounded up for the metric ton of fun: 5/5.

That's your discretion in taking your 11-year-old, obviously (and I'm a little less inclined to judge you for that) but I would say a kid around the age in my screening today had no place being there. That's not babying. That's being responsible. And if you saw these parents, you'd know what I'm talking about.

17 is the legal age for seeing an R-rated film by themselves, so no, you're just fine.

Lots of pros to the movie. Okay, mostly pros. Good flow to the movie so that it doesn't bog down. A couple of good romantic moments. Lots of great action, although a bit too much of the quick camera fast cuts. Hate those. Hilarious dialogues. Mostly a great choice of actors. Good editing and direction, overall.

Cons. Villain wasn't really a villain. But, that being said, I can see why he wasn't. It's a kind of origin story for Deadpool, so it fits. But, the movie kind of fails just a bit because of that. Not much, mind you. The parts with Colossus and the kid were good, but the reason why just those two ... well, that could have been handled better. Funny, yeah, but the reasons could have been better. I'm not one for a lot of language in a movie. Just isn't my cup of tea. I understand it's part of the character, but for me, it was just a bit too much so I list it as my con. Don't get me wrong, the cons really are a very small thing compared to the total movie.

I am looking forward to seeing the next one.

Oh, and I agree with other posters, who in their right mind as a parent would bring their kids to this movie???

There were some really young kids at my showing as well. I personally would not take kids to this movie.

My parents took me to see movies like The Rock and Bad Boys at a young age in theaters. Every kid is different. I remember seeing an adult giddy as a school boy to introduce his son to the character of Rambo when the fourth film came out a few years ago. The kid was probably six or seven, and you could tell that the dad felt like he was showing and sharing something very special with his son, and that's why I don't judge parents. Ever kid is different, and to see the parents who genuinely might want to share something they've loved for a long time with their kids, I honestly get it. It really depends on the movie too. But I'm not going to call out bad parenting when kids see R rated movies, because I was brought up that way.

This is more about what one considers age appropriate entertainment for a child. To not take a child isn't a matter of babying a kid. It's determining that the graphic material in a movie might be more than what a child can grasp.

MPAA ratings are a joke. You're better off making your own decisions.

Check out the documentary "This Film Is Not Yet Rated."

Good documentary. I quit trusting any kind of rating system long ago. As a general guide it may have it's uses, but it shouldn't be the deciding factor either.

If parents teach their kids right from wrong seeing something violent shouldn't be traumatizing if the child is able to handle similar content at home. While this won't always be the case with some uninformed parents, some do in fact know what they are bringing their little ones to see.

We've (geek culture) been winning for years but the fact that this movie exists is just slamming that victory flag into the ground.

As a kid, getting an Avengers movie one day seemed like a longshot. Deadpool...

Reynolds fits the character like a glove. Which was expected, but what I didn't expect was the emotional investment. Very similar to Iron Man in that aspect. All of RDJ's snarkyness would be for naught if we didn't care.

There were plenty of young teenage kids with their friends at my screening though. They all seemed to have loved it and surprisingly they were quiet throughout the film which is rare with them.

I understand the ratings system is flawed but too complete write them off? And I agree that a parent has every right to make their own decision on what to show their kids but that decision should be made after seeing the film at least once....not taking your kids to see a rated r movie that you as a parent haven't even seen yet. I will never agree with that. Would you take your kids to see Shame because Michael Fassbender is a great actor, the story sounds interesting, and you don't trust the rating systems?

No, the bullet points for the rating is there for a reason. The rating themselves are a joke and are often abused, same goes for the ESRB rating system as well.

Parents should know their child and make the best choice for their children. Some children are able to handle more intense things, some cannot handle watching Barnie without having a panic attack.

But then again, I was raised by a mother who was more interested in guiding us rather then blocking us. Censorship was only a thing if I wanted it, not something she forced.

I saw plenty of R-rated movies at home growing up but only with my parents seeing it first and them fast forwarding through things they didn't want me to see yet. Each R-rated movie I saw progressively had less and less fast-forwarding involved until I was about ten or eleven. It was pretty much fair game for me at that point as long as I watched them with my dad. My first R-rated movie at the theater was The Matrix.

Conversely, I had a friend whose parents wouldn't let him even watch PG-13 rated movies. When my dad rented Mortal Kombat for my birthday party and let us watch it unsupervised at age 12, this friend's parents chewed my parents out and didn't let us play together for about two months. All the other parents weren't bothered by it at all. I giggle to this day about it not only because of the actual fight between both our parents, but that the over-protectiveness of their parenting resulted in a very morally unsound individual.
