I'm a Debbie Downer? Why? Because I'm looking at facts and trying to take a realistic guess based on that? I WANT this film to succeed, I just don't think it will to the degree that you're hoping for based on what I've seen and how this sort of material has fared in the past. You're setting yourself up for a disappointment. Me on the other hand, I might be positively surprised if it does better than I would have guessed.

DEADPOOL is very popular among comic book nerds and buffs. A core audience is already in there, ready to buy tickets. Don't forget this movie belongs to the very successful X-Men universe in many ways, and people will caught this angle soon (Colossus is revealed in the trailer).
DEADPOOL is a violent character, people love action heroes, people love masked action heroes, people love masked action heroes with katanas.

This can become a sleeper hit or a surprise hit.

No disappointment here. Like I've already said, I'm getting the movie I've been wanting and hoping for.

I had originally accepted this movie was never getting made.

Now that it is, I'm on

and with the talk of there possibly being a sequel, well that's just icing on the cake.

I think a lot of people became more aware of Deadpool because of his 2013 videogame. Suddenly a lot of people at my school knew who he was and liked him and none of them are even remotely interested in comics. And let's not forget that Pewdiepie and a lot of other famous youtubers did playthroughs of that game, and they have lots and lots of viewers who aren't gamers watching their channels.

And as people said before, this is tied into the X-Men franchise, which will help bring people into theaters. The trailer has millions of views already and the awareness is there, so I'm hoping for the best

They also wrote G I Joe: Retaliation. That was one of the worst films of 2013. Made the first film look like a masterpiece.

the trailer for Deadpool looks a crap-ton better than GI Joe did...so I think we're safe there.

If you were to cut The RZA out of the extended edition of GI Joe: Retaliation, its an ok movie.

not to derail the thread, but while Retaliation wasn't a great film by any means, it was 100x better than the first.

I agree. The first one was a bad film but it, at least, was knowingly stupid. Retaliation expected us to take this stupidity seriously and suffered greatly for it.

Yeah Stephen Sommers does dumb well and knows exactly what he's doing and how to do it.

G.I. Joe Retaliation was just abysmal on every level with one of the worst scripts and terrible characters i've encountered in a long time. Plus it didn't even have any of the fun OTT action from the first movie (minus the ninja mountain sequence which was great).

I'm not against stupid fun. Commando is ridiculous and I love the hell out of that film.
