All others.

I find it funny when people complain about the second Death Star in Jedi but then you find out they are huge fans of the Nolan Batman films. Do they not realize that Rises is just a rehash of Batman Begins with the villains wanting to destroy Gotham? Plus The Emperor's trap is 100 times better than a woman holding a city hostage because she has daddy issues.
Sounds like a problem you need to work out. And yeah, there are better trilogies than those two. If we were talking GPAs and school scores, Jedi would really drag the average down a bit no matter how good Star Wars (A-) and Empire (A+) are.

You had a great idea and I think it works very well. My bio teacher had a the same idea back in high school and felt it was the proper viewing order to show to someone new coming into the saga completely new to it.

Well close this thread because this ******* has declared that he is right and everyone else is wrong. Why even have a discussion?

Seriously name one final film in a trilogy that is better than Jedi that isn't Return Of The King.

Before Midnight

If we're being loose with the definition of a trilogy:
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Die Hard With A Vengeance

I know many disagree but Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy is pretty much perfect for me. Never understood the hate for the third film some have.

Indiana Jones is damn close too, a little too much recycling and cartoon humor in Last Crusade but outside of that damn near perfect.

Off the top of my head...

The Battle of the Five Armies
The Bourne Ultimatum
Iron Man 3
Revenge of the Sith
Last Crusade

Hell, I'd even say Godfather Part III and maybe Matrix Revolutions.

And back on topic:

ALL HAIL THE ERNEST RISTER ORDER!
"George Lucas believes that Star Wars is the story of Anakin Skywalker, but it is not. The prequels, which establish his character, are so poor at being character-driven that, if the series is about Anakin, the entire series is a failure. Anakin is not a relatable character, Luke is."

How does the creator of a series "believe" what the story of Star Wars is about?

My problem with Rises it that it seemingly undoes a lot of the effort put into the "realism" they worked so hard on in the first two films. The whole stock trade thing isn't even specious, it's flat out unbelievable. And the whole of the police force being sent into a trap, and then getting trapped seems REALLY "comic booky" - and 50's era comic books at that. Not to mention I just can't get the "some days you just can't get rid of a bomb" ending that harkens back to one of the TV show's best jokes (I know it was from the movie).

Were there unrealistic things running around in the first two films? Yes. But Rises has both combined beat by a country mile. That sums it up for me.

And Bane's death was rather disappointing and not climactic IMO.

Over the past week and a half I did this order with my girlfriend who'd never seen the movies, and we both really enjoyed it. Kinda makes it so that you invest in Darth Vader a lot more during Jedi since you just saw what made him turn to the dark side, rather than having 2 movies in between Sith and Jedi.

Alien3 (A far more interesting failure than Jedi)
The Dark Knight Rises
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Deathly Hallows as a whole if you count Order of the Phoenix/Half Blood Prince/DH as one trilogy with Goblet of Fire as a bridge between one trilogy to the next)
Mass Effect 3 (it's cinematic to me to me, and has surpassed Star Wars as my grand space opera)
Pusher III: I'm the Angel of Death
Toy Story 3

Just so we're all clear, I didn't write that prose, the Machete guy did. I devised a way to watch the movies for my niece and nephew so they could have the most fun with the movies. For some reason, it caught on, and the Machete dude ripped me off, wrote a bunch of malarkey.

That whole thing about Star Wars being the story of Anakin Skywalker is total revisionist bullshit anyway.

You're not alone, I'm a fan of "Phantom Menace" as well. I'm an old-school, original generation (OG) Star Wars fan who's also a big fan of the prequels, by extension, the Clone Wars TV series. These two aspects of the Star Wars might be more popular with the younger generation of fans, those who grew up with them, but there are also many "OG" fans who enjoy them too. If you're interested, you should check out the book "The Star Wars Heresies" by Paul F McDonald, which is a great, in-depth look at the mythology, psychology and historical themes in the prequel trilogy. As a fan, I connected to both Obi-wan and Anakin's character arcs throughout these films, sometimes due to specific events, such as losing a parent suddenly and early in life and the inability to deal with loss, which I found a very relatable struggle.

When he actually doesn't know, he keeps just making it up as he goes along.

Yep. In the Leonard Maltin interviews on the "Faces" VHS sets, George even says the story is really the droids' story, since R2 and/or 3PO are present for the majority of the OT films, and the trilogy really follows them.

Seriously, George in some ways is the equivalent of the 10-year-old on the playground going "no, that's not the rule anymore, this is the rule".

Except he's the kid in the striped shirt who wrote the rules.
