I - III and V - VI - Owned by Lucasfilm, along with digital and TV rights. Fox has theatrical and home entertainment rights till 2020.
If only everyone who owns the rights would just get together and say, "Look folks. The fans want the OT original theatrical versions A LOT. Plus the existing Blu-rays of the OT Special Editions don't have the best transfer. Plus we don't have Blu-rays of the PT original theatrical versions. Fans also want digital copies. Let's face it, Star Wars fans want - and will buy - everything. Not only would we get everyone who bought it before to buy it again, but there is now an entirely new market because of the new film. We will make a boatload of dough, not to mention we'll finally be preserving the original OT, which will earn a lot of goodwill (and sales) from fans who have been pissed off at George Lucas for years. Let's do this!"

Anakin and Padme also ate aboard the transport to Naboo and Artoo brought her some more food. Also Anakin sliced some fruit and Force-fed it to her once they got there.

EDIT: Missed it by that much.

It's been talked about that since Disney didn't "consult" Lucas on Episode VII and seeing that he [Lucas] said a few things that you'll want to look-up yourself; he has no intention of asking Fox to share video rights. Yes, Fox can do what it's wants, but Lucas still has quite a bit of pull with Fox.

I wouldn't look for an "original" release of IV, V, and VI until after 2020. Fox holds all the cards now, but will hold less later and a deal may not come until all they have left to bargain with is IV.

There's also tons of creature eating in this saga. Return of the Jedi alone is filled with it.

Ugh, the death of hope lies that way. The only way I can endure is to keep convincing myself that a release of the OUT is right around the corner.

Lucasfilm now holds more control over the films, all of them, than Fox or Disney. If Lucasfilm, now run by Kathleen Kennedy, wants something done... they produce it and let Fox & Disney handle distribution.

It already happened with the digital release. All it takes is Lucasfilm completing the work.

Who would be making the 'real' call if the unaltered originals are restored and released: Lucasfilm and Kennedy or Disney? I realize Disney owns Lucasfilm, but just wondering how those politics work. Someone argued with me on another forum Kennedy would not allow the release of the UAT because she's friends with Lucas and it would be insulting to him.

It depends if they feel the potential profits in the hundreds of millions outweigh Lucas' hurt feelings.

This guy I was talking to is a strong Lucas apologist. He thinks maybe 20,000 people would buy them if that.

I very much doubt Lucas' opinions enter into it. Disney wants to please the fans and rake in the dough for doing so. Lucas wanted to serve his own artistic ends.

It'll be millions sold, if Lucasfilm/Fox/Disney pull their collective you-know-what's out of their you-know-where's.

Lucasfilm controlled by Kennedy... Lucasfilm has the same automation as Marvel, but Disney can still decline or override decisions if they affect Disney's brand ir reputation. Dreamworks, on the other hand, is under Disney's control and has been placed under the Touchstone label.

There has to be an understanding that even though Disney owns a company, they don't necessarily control that company or own everything that company has. Disney used to own Miramax and by extension Dimension but Disney did not distribute every film for them. Nor did Disney try to force the Weinsteins into releasing products they didn't want.

Dreamworks is a independent company and only has a territorial distribution deal with Disney (as Dreamworks has different distributors in other countries). The distribution deal will conclude next year.

Dreamworks signed a deal with Disney to have Disney distribute and partially fund film releases. However, the deal changed enough to force Dreamworks to split from Disney.

The distribution agreement expires this August and Dreamworks in already in talks with Universal about a possible deal. Whatever happens we'll know by next fall.
