I actually really like the scene of Anakin saying goodbye to his mother in TPM. Unfortunately their reunion in AotC doesn't do much for me.

Rogue One is a major movie.

Just because it's not Episodic doesn't mean it's not major.

It's still just a side story so I wouldn't count it among the major episodic numbered ones.

I thought it was horribly done tonally. He's all excited to leave then in the next second supersad it's like a jarring shift then hes fine again after a little pep talk. Could have used some finessing.

It made sense to me. He's excited to leave, then it suddenly hits him that he doesn't know when he'll see his mom again and he becomes more melancholy about it. It's not like he's "fine" after he talks to his mom, either; she tells him not to look back. It always worked for me, and even Jake Lloyd is pretty good in that scene.

He would still feel guilty about leaving his mom behind on a slave desert planet, and 2 to 3 years later discovering his mom was kidnapped and tortured by Sand People while he was gone would have had the same dramatic affect.

It's all speculative, of course. I'm just imagining these alternate possibilities for fun. The films are what they are, and it isn't going to change, unless Disney and Lucasfilm decided to do remakes, which I doubt would happen.
Exactly right. As you say, having Anakin a little older and played by the same actor through all three movies would've made a big difference to my feelings towards Phantom Menace.

We know WHY Lucas made the choice that he did by making him so young, but as with so much of the prequels it just didn't work in execution: what was gained from Anakin being wrenched from his mother was lost with the vast disconnect between the two iterations of him in the films.

GL won't be releasing anything. Georgie no longer has any say in what Disney or his former company do.

Can we just pretend the prequels never happened? And while we're at it do the same for X-Men-The Last Stand, Terminator Genisys and Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull?

Sorry, but you can't. The majority of the Star Wars lore comes from the PT.

Well then you also have to pretend Days of Future Past and The Wolverine never happened.

I like to pretend that those flashbacks in DoFP are shot for Days of Future Past and aren't callbacks to individual films.

Absolutely. Or anything else, really. I certainly don't watch Jaws and think about the other movies, or Highlander (aliens... holy crap that was dumb). That being said, the prequels will always be official "canon" and that will affect other films you might see (like seeing Jimmy Smitts in Rogue One).

The idea of "canon" I've always thought was a bit silly. Like how some Star Wars fans got mad about all of the old books and stuff being de-canonized, like it "didn't really happen now." Its all fictional, there is no reality, so the whole concept of canon is just in the mind.

I definitely ignore sequels I dislike, like all the Highlander sequels. However I bet with the prequels it's going to be difficult because they're already starting to reference them in the new movies, as you point out. Those ties are only going to get stronger I bet, like in the Han Solo prequel.

P.S. You can't ignore Last Stand because the great X-Men movies after it reference it! Bwa-ha-ha!

I don't refuse to acknowledge sequels or movies unless I find them to be entirely devoid of anything worth...well, noting. I didn't like TFA, but it's canon to me. That being said, people keep saying there was a Batman v Superman movie that was released last year, never saw any evidence about it really happening.

I don't there were actually, but there in Days of Future Past, The Wolverine and a little bit in Apocalypse. You really have to see Last Stand for a lot of those plots to work.

P.S. Batman v Superman Extended Cut is one of my favorite movies of 2016.
