I've never understood the love fest over Boba Fett. He's in the OT for maybe a total of 4-5 minutes.

Are you saying there's a correlation between the amount of screen time and a character's importance or likeability?

Yes, there is. The old 'less is more' trick. Some of the characters in the film are somewhat one dimensional (Maul and either of the Fetts for example). Leaves you wanting more, but honestly, there isn't much more to the characters. So, if they were in the films longer than necessary the audience would realize how kind of unimportant they really are.

Kind of like the Shark in Jaws. If you saw it at every attack, you wouldn't be scared by the film's climax and would be like "Oh, there is the shark." not "HOLY F#$#!! SHARK!!"

Well no not really. Calm down. I'm just sayin' I've never understood the obsession some people have over the character since he says one line in the whole OT. That's all. Simma down nawh!

Hey I'm calm, I'm calm.

You know the answer though: it's because he has a jetpack. Everyone knows that jetpacks defeat everything else.

If Jar Jar had a jetpack, GL would be a hero.

Probably because he's beast looking, and the assumption that had he or other characters with those traits been given adequate time it would be awesome .

Exactly. He's as lame as Darth Maul. And much like with Maul, the fans have obsessed on style over substance.

And much like with Boba Fett, they both die like punks and fall into a big hole. Must be one of Lucas' repeating theme elements.

I rarely agree with Beast but I thought Boba's father Jango was a much better character since he actually did things and contributed to the overall story, all Boba really did was transport Han and die.

Are we talking about the same Star Wars? I thought it was all style and little substance. Wasn't Star Wars modeled after the 40's Buck Rodgers and Flash Gordon?

I've read all the correlations to the Hiddern Fortress, Kurosawa, the mythology but to me it always been about spending a Saturday afternoon at the theatre watching some goofy kid fun.

Don't get me wrong, I loved it when Empire went dark and went philosphical on the Force, but it still didn't change my impression of it, at least the impression an 11 yr old had at that time.

Just my 2 cents in the matter. Move along.

No way, Maul kicked ass in his fight. He just got too arogant.

P.S. I think I may have liked Jar Jar more if he'd had a jetpack.

I would've liked Jar Jar more if he had never been conceived, his simpleton way and constant bumbling undid the work Amidala had been doing for years to stop the Emperor from taking over the galaxy.

But his jetpack is what ends up getting him killed.

And he'd have beat Obi-wan a third time in ROTS before getting decapitated by Anakin. Obi-wan would still beat Grevious in ROTS. Obi-wan would still amputate the rest of Anakin's limbs in ROTS. Sounds like resolution to me... it would be Obi-wan continually getting punked by Maul.

We just would have missed out on the Kenny Rogers stunt man from AOTC.
Except taht you can't have the same plot for AOTC. I don't see Windu saying to Padmé that Maul can't be behind his assassination attempt because he was once a Jedi, he can't harm anyone.....

For me the biggest problem with Maul was all the Promo around TPM. He was on every packaging, and even in the trailers was saw what he was like and and that he wielded a double-bladed lightsaber. The expcetations were that he would had a big role, and he hadn't.

They promote the Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz and she has a fairly small amount of actual screen time.

Maul was cannon fodder, an interesting looking character there to cause problems for our good guys, to kill Qui-Gon and be killed by Obi-Wan.

Really? A black cloak, a bunch of horns and some make-up is such a creatively designed character?

Yeah, Jango was great! Boba Fett is a complete loser in comparison.

Much to learn you still have!
