I don't even much care for the new trilogy, but I'm going to buy the whole shebang with all versions anyway. :P

i will never forget the hype for the phantom menace. that movie will always have a special place for me, because i was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO exicted when it first came out and i had all the toys and stuff, even a blanket and that episode 1 videogame "episode 1 racer" with the podracers. sheesh, i remember when it was still being called just "episode 1" and the star wars insider sold pre-movie stuff like a year before with nothing but "epsiode 1" on pins and shirts and stuff (lame marketing, i know). its like, wow, it was a biig deal! however by the time attack of the clones came out i was kinda out of star wars, and it wasnt until ROTS that i got back into it again because i actually really enjoyed that one. granted, none of the new movies are anywhere near the original, but i did enjoy 2 of them. AOTC is the weakest link for me. nevertheless, i am buying all 6 films, no question.

Nor do I. I like the Tattoine setting and have warmed somewhat to the watercolor style but could really do without little Ani. Which I acknowlege puts them in a tough spot. They can't really use Luke alone to represent the entire sage and no figures at all probably wouldn't work.

But still...

This the movie thread or the BD thread because I really have no idea where to post anymore about these films/BD's.

I could've sworn that the Blu-rays were discussed in this thread at one point.

You do know there are no blu-rays to discuss yet, right?

Yes, but arguing is obviously the better alternative, isn't it? I meant the forthcoming release.

Ah, you want to discuss the forthcoming release. Got it...

I hope it's good.

Do you hope it's good?

Yeah I do hope it's good. I mean, after 1 1/2 years of not watching Star Wars due to technical difficulties, I could say that I really need this set. My expectations are for good transfers: outstanding video and audio quality at the very very least. I'll probably watch it over a couple of days.

I don't see an argument, I see a discussion about the acting and writing. I also said in my post on 16035 that I had no idea where to post anymore because when I tried to discuss the BD release it turns into 3 pages of film discussion.

What I am most curious about is the changes (the new changes) Did he replace the puppet in TMP? Did he add more PT to the OT set?

I sent Lucasfilm 2 emails to confirm whether TPM puppet Yoda has been replaced. No responses yet, although I assume it would be, going by the "even more enhancements" thing.

What always got me was how did they get the puppet in TPM so wrong? Why didnt they just use the puppets from TESB stored at the ranch? It was only 35 or 40 years before Empire so I doubt a 900 year old would look that much younger.

It's possible that the Yoda puppet perished or partially decayed to the point were it was unusable. They should have kept the moulds though. They do discuss the Ep.1 puppet in the documentary 'From Puppets to Pixels.' At the end of the day he just looked weird. The CGI Yoda does make an brief cameo at the end of the film though.

it also depends on how much he ages at certain points in his life along with him being inactive and alone for such a long time as well...but I also think there was just a plot hole with Yoda's age...I've always wondered about that and I just accepted it as a plot hole that Lucas didn't think about thoroughly enough...

Even Anakin's "I hate you" line, where he sounds like a spoiled child, worked for me because while he was dangerous, he was also in many respects actually still a spoiled child. Within the context of the story, what you have to wonder is whether he would have been less psychologically damaged by staying with his mother, but remaining a slave, than by being freed but without his mother, at such a young age. Whether by design (which would actually be more interesting) or because of sloppy writing, the Jedi made numerous errors in judgement and in fact, were frequently hypocritical during the course of the story, but they never seem aware of that except in the OT when Obi-Wan implies that he made a mistake by training Anakin alone.
Why are people so intent on just assuming that it's bad writing? For me it's a key plot point of the prequels! The Jedi were so complacent that they couldn't see how weak they were becoming and how strong the dark side had become (see Clones), and they were so encumbered by their rigid dogma - no attachments etc - that they simply couldn't handle Anakin properly (although to their credit they didn't want anything to do with him originally).

What I love about Obi-Wan's little confessonial to Luke is that it may as well be a mea culpa for the failure of the entire order. And Luke shows them the way in Jedi by embracing love and attachments (even though he got his ass kicked in Empire because of the same things) which leads to Anakin's 'return' and the destruction of the Empire.

It's times like that, when themes and ideas are properly resolved across the entire Saga, that I frickin' LOVE Star Wars.

The latex used for the original puppet had degraded too much. You can even see that it's not in a perfect state in Jedi, never mind 20-odd years later.

Lucasfilm have always maintained that they didn't do a huge redesign on Phantom Menace Yoda, but that it was the new materials (silicon, I believe) that made him look so freaky. I'm inclined to agree, as he looks so stiff and shiny, unlike the looser, drier latex puppet.

I think I'm getting the two box sets. The "complete" set box art is just bad.

No. The separate trilogies are 3 discs only. The saga set has 3 bonus discs.
