Whenever someone quotes a celebrity or professional critic with a less than favorable opinion of these tpyes of issues, you guys (Beast inparticular, though not exclusively) tend to shut those down saying things like "Who cares? That's just one person's opinion and they are no more special than anyone else" and other things of that nature. So, it is ironic that the split second that someone with any degree of fame says something in defense of Lucas, you jump all over it and feel the need to show it to everyone else. And it's Kevin Smith of all people. Now, I have nothing against him. In fact, I'm actually a pretty big fan of him and his askewniverse movies. I actually met him a couple of times at some Wizard World conventions... been to a few Q&As, gotten some autographs and pics with him, etc. But having said that, it's not exactly like he is some professional critic who's opinion should be heald in a particularly high regard in these matters. If anything, he's likely biased in the sense that a big part of his career has involved making Star Wars references in his movies, and he likely doesn't want to do much to upset George Lucas as a result. As such, even if he was angry over the Blu-Ray changes, I doubt that he would stir that pot too much, despite his tendency to lay into people who do things to upset him. Plus the man does really enjoy seeing his own name in print and mentioned on TV, etc (he actually thought it was funny when they made fun of him on Entourage). I'm sure he probably loves Lucas for the simple fact that Lucas made reference to the "Independent Contractors" conversation from Clerks in the Episode II commentary. Now, Smith is entitled to his opinion on this as well. And it's otherwise fine if you guys want to point out that he is taking George's side on this. But the irony you even bringing it up is still funny given how you guys have so quickly shot down the opinions of any other celebritiy/professional who chimed in with an opposing view, with all due respect. As for the arguments saying that we should wait to see the changes in "context".... Seeing just the "Noooooo" scene by itself already tells us what that scene will be like when/if we watch the Blu-Ray (I say "if" for those who are on the fense about getting it or plan not to buy it... I DO plan to still get it, for the record). I don't understand all of this "context" nonsense. It's not like people sitting down and watching this version of ROTJ all of the way through (after having seen the previous editions of the movies many times) is somehow going to alter their perception of this new change or something, or any others that they may not like for that matter. It's not as if people who have watched that clip on youtube many times and hated it each time are going to suddenly sit through the entire movie, get to that scene, watch it, and go, "Oh, that was lovely! So much better than just watching the clip by itself!" I'm not thrilled with the change. I was much angrier the first couple of times I've seen it. I've gotten more "used" to it, but I would still prefer it not be there. I will still get the set, but I can more than understand why some people would choose not to. Quote:
Wicket's eyes are fine. The rocks in front of R2 are fine with the exception of the continuity error that they create shortly thereafter when they suddenly disappear. The only new changes that I don't care for are the "No. Noooo" and Obi Wan's new sound in ANH (I just laugh each time I hear it). And the fact that most of the color timing issues from 2004 weren't corrected, when we were told that they would be. There are clearly some false/misleading statements coming out of Lucasfilm in that regard. I think there is at least some basis for people to argue false advertising. Quote:
The biggest thing that we were hoping for was the 2004 color timing issues to be corrected. The images coming out of that comic-con booth/display were strongly indicating that the color timing issues were still there, as was frequently pointed out by Adywan and a few other people. These are not things that were pulled out of "thin air", we had footage being shown to promote the Blu-Rays that was supposedly from the source. But there were those who were in denial saying that it either looked fine, or that we should reserve judgement until the actual product is released. Now these 'rips' showed up a few days ago, and it's proven this to still be the case. Of course there's still a handful of people who want to deny this as being from the source and say we should still hold judgement until we have the actual discs. Somehow I doubt the case is going to change very much between now and then, and we already have at least 1 forum member who actually has the discs in hand now. How much more waiting for confirmation do we need to get? I think most everyone expected additional changes. Just nobody wanted any more changes that would screw up the dynamic of a major scene. Well, for many this "No. Nooooooo." thing did exactly that. You may not feel the same way, and that's fine, but many others do feel this way. If the color timing issues had been corrected and if this addition hadn't happened, I don't think the complaints would be nearly as bad as they are now. Most of the other stuff is easy to overlook (well, the Obi Wan howl is laughable, but that's about it). I don't think anyone realistically expected other past changes (i.e. Greedo shooting first, Hayden in ROTJ) to be gone from this release. You need to learn to differentiate these things rather than just lumping any and all complaints as being one and the same. Maybe then you will have an easier time "getting it", even if you don't agree with it. Last edited by Dynamo of Eternia; 09-02-2011 at 08:23 PM. |

So do we know anything at all about any Store exclusives when this hits the shelves, like does Target, Walmart, Best Buy, etc. have anything to offer?
I know back when the Limited Editions came out Walmart had Episode IV, V and VI action figure sets, just curious if any Store is going to be "trying" to get you to buy there with some kind of gimmick or exclusive. Thanks |

I think that for the first time I'll do a custom case, especially made for the DVD extras from Episodes I-III and the OT.

I think they even have the trailers on the DVDs in the set as well. So you get them in both HD and SD for good measure. If they're left off of the SW set, that's inexcusable.

The opinion of someone that worked on the films, Phil Tippett. His opinion might just surprise you.
