The only difference between the 2004 DVDs in the box set and the 2006 Limited Editions is the inclusion of the UOT. The main disc is exactly the same in both sets.

You can put one of the 2004 discs in a DVD player, eject it, put the 2006 disc in and it will resume from where you left off.
That's kind of funny.

Okay, thanks for the help. I'll pass on them then - I've not much interest in the UOT unless it's been treated properly. Otherwise, I feel like I've been insulted as a fan and a consumer.

I know "mathz are hard," but apparently so is reading. See that I used the word "nearly." That doesn't qualify it as 8 years. I was not an approximation because that would be as stupid as your attempts at posting anything thought in this thread. That's so nerdy and nitpicky. No wonder you can't enjoy a movie series. But like I said, you're only embarrassing yourself with the critique of a print you've pulled out of your ass. You simply do not know what you're talking about. When this is in everyone's home, I'm going to quote your post so we can all point at you and laugh.

I saw the Blu-rays at Comic Con. As an exhibitor I had a lot of time before the floor opened to watch the footage without people disturbing me. I could barely hear the audio though.

But for the record, If I were negotiating, I'd probably offer $25 for the Definitive Collection, maybe go up to $40 if it's in great shape.

Probably $5 apiece for the early (non-THX) laserdiscs. $6-7 apiece for the THX/Special Editions.

I have the THX Special Edition Box Set. It's pristine, but someone's going to have give me a much better reason to let it go than $21 dollars. $210 dollars maybe, and if that means I hang onto it until the end of days, so be it.

I'm excited to finally have pop-up menus with Star Wars, no more having to exit to the main screen to select different scenes!!!

Here's what I've bought in my life time in terms of video content that's Star Wars.

The Original Trilogy
1. The 80's pan and scan VHS release
2. The very first widescreen release special box set on VHS
3. The 1995 Laserdiscs
4. The 1997 Special Editions on VHS
5. The 2000 re-release of the Special Editions on VHS
6. The 2004 DVD's
7. The 2006 DVD's for the Theatrical Cuts

The Prequels
1. Episode 1 on VHS Widescreen
2. The Prequel Trilogy on DVD

Misc.
Cartoon Network's Volume 1 and 2 by Genndy Tartakovsky on DVD
The Ewok Adventures DVD
R2D2 Beneath the Dome on DVD
The Clone Wars theatrical movie on Blu-ray
Clone Wars Season 1 and 2 on Blu-ray

Gotta love when somebody who clearly knows very little about filmmaking is criticizing a filmmaker. I'm know Lucas fanboy or defender but this happens all the time in films. Michael Kahn, great editor, but pay closer attention to Jurassic Park. In one scene, a towel literally changes color. In another scene, you see Jeeps already parked by the landing pad. After the copter arrives, they pull up to the landing pad. This is due to shots being reversed to better the pace, and make it more exciting.

If you don't believe us, go to that movie mistakes site.

From the moment one begins writing a film, it is constantly in state of editing and revisions. A screenplay will go through many drafts, sometimes including simple edits and others being complete rewrites (the original Star Wars is notorious for this

In the process of transferring that to the screen, revisions are constantly made. Dialogue gets changed (Han was supposed to say "I love you too" but they felt "I know" was better for his character), little moments are made up on the spot, and some moments are even dropped completely, sometimes on the night before filming them.

Then the real editing begins. Workprints are often bloated with slow pacing and far too much footage. Much of that is excised. Scenes are dropped. Sometimes scenes fluxuate from being in and out of the film. A lot of times, after seeing how the film plays, it is decided that new moments will need to be added to better the story structure, be more dramatic and theatrical, or sometimes because something they tried simply didn't work.

The goal of any editor is to give a film a natural flow and story structure, with a steadfast but constantly building pace. This something I think a lot of films fail at. It's not because of continuity errors. It's because there is often something there that blatantly stops the film or holds the story back. The character development should flow alongside the story, not work against it.

Editing is something I pay a lot of attention to in films. In fact, most of my complaints about the prequels have to do with the editing.

I have a sneaking suspicion we will get Hardware Wars... after all it is the spoof that started them all. Also Ernie Fosselius (the director) used to work at Lucasfilm... so who knows.

I just wish frickin' Porklips Now had found its way to the Apocalypse Now release.
