Doubtful. Even though it would take Lucasfilm a few months to address as many changes as Adywan did in several years, they don't seem too interested in fixing things on that level. I say, if you're going to tinker with a movie like Lucas has, might as well completely dissect it. But oh, well. I can't control the man's mind...yet.

Does anybody know why it has been said that the color timing of the OT has been fixed, when the htf link shows that the color timing is exactly the same as the DVDs in those screenshots? Hopefully there is an explanation, but this kind of stuff makes me suspicious of claims not backed up by photographic evidence.

So after two pages off the road and on a goat trail...back to the Blu Rays. Hardware Wars? Included in the spoofs? If not it should be.

Hardware Wars? Eh. I doubt it, it would be too long for a 90 Minute Spoofs feature.

I'd rather see Troops to be honest. Now that would be a worthy inclusion for the Spoofs.

Troops was good but not as nostalgic but then you had to be there in 77 to see it. It was pretty funny in the fall of 77.....

I hope GL includes plenty of Kasdan, Kurtz and Marcia Lucas in the docu's......it would be a shame if he were to change "the making of" history as well as the films.

Both maybe? idk...

Unrelated: So there are 40 hours of bonus features... Am I correct in assuming this is talking about videos and commentaries only, or do they factor in the "average" time people spend looking at the 360 models, matte paintings, etc?

Less than 100 pages till 1138!

I really sympathize your situation. It has to be a full-time job sifting through this thread, but it is greatly appreciated by those of us that just want more info on this BD release and less opinion on nonsensical things. Thank you!!

To be fair... most of the discussion today has stuck to the topic of the release.

And there's only been a bit of thread drift for natural discussion coming out of the variou bits of news we've seen.

I read the thread overall at hometheaterforum regarding the release. Very little new about this. They are using dated 7 year old masters for the original trilogy with minimal tweaks in terms of PQ. Lucasfilm states the masters were very ahead of thier time when done and bull$h!+! They were HD masters for dvd in 2004 that was 95% the norm at that time. Lowry did some cleanup, but there was little groundbreaking about them! Lowry had done a number of 4K transfers for dvd by that point in 2004. Using 1.9K elements when they could have used the 35mm elements from the 97 SE and should have been scanned in at 4K. The couple of minutes worth of digital effects for the SE could simply have been upconverted to 4K, no different than Spiderman 3. 1.9K masters for the original trilogy is pretty ridiculous for a bluray release of this magnitude in 2011!

Yet all the Professionals who have actually seen some of the footage up close at the event seem to think it looks fantastic.

I think I'll go with what Bill Hunt from The Digital Bits and the guy from HTF are saying about the release.

Especially since you're not speaking from a standpoint of actually having seen the material yourself.

I've watched the 2004 release for nearly 8 years and I've seen the Blu-ray ray in person. You don't know what you're talking about. You're presumptuous and you're going to embarrass yourself. This set looks unbelievably crisp. It doesn't matter if they are using the master they got out of the toilet because it looks perfect.

All I know so far, is that I am very pleased with that crossed-saber shot from "Jedi", and I'm definitely excited about the release.

I have been holding off from watching my DVDs for a long time and it is getting tougher to resist. Thankfully, the date is coming closer .

It's damn hard. I actually ended up watching The Phantom Menace a short time ago. Just couldn't wait.

Heh. Speaking of... when the OT originally came out on LD,... one year I watched a different film a day for an entire year.

So I have seen the OT way more than is humanly safe for any movie. It was just a joy to have them on LD.

That's pretty impressive considering the 8th anniversary of the 2004 DVD release won't be until September 21, 2012.

Mathz r hard.

The images I provide are never identified above as "screen captures" They are compressed (even further by me) graphical illustrations of the work that was done. They serve only to illustrate some of the fixes made, and if you look at them you should be able to see the before and after differences. Not sure how thats sheep-like. In later parts I'll discuss answers to why no original cuts, why some documentaries were left off and other questions.
Adam wanted to give people a sense of the changes, but those pictures aren't direct screencaps. The actual video could look the same or different. Colors could be the same or different. I think it'll look much better than 2004, but I still will continue to hope one day we can get rescans of whatever the most "original" prints of this point with minimal post-processing and modifications.

Before you misinterpet this as "hating" all I'm doing is adding rational considerations. Yes, I believe Adam's comments and there's no reason to believe that the discs won't have the sharpest, most crisp SW presentation ever. But, as many of you have said in the past, we won't know for ourselves about all the little things we've discussed until we each individually have the discs.

Oh, and it's good to be back .
