Correct me if I am wrong, but couldn't that just be because of different video formats and all their framerates? PAL, NTSC, 24p, etc...I know back in the day, "PAL speed-up" made running times differ in various parts of the world, and just a few years ago doing 'live chats' with people around the world all watching the same movie we'd have to re-sync everybody half a dozen times so half of us weren't watching completely different scenes.

Regardless, they were discussing the variation between the running times on the DVDs and those listed on the Blu-ray packaging and in this case there should be a difference with the DVD run times appearing 4% shorter than the Blu-ray run times. That would be why the Blu-ray run times appear longer even though in actual fact they aren't. |

That's to be expected for PAL releases. 24 -> 25 fps conversion is usually done by speeding up the video and (if whoever makes the disc doesn't hate you) correcting audio pitch. Fortunately PAL Blu-rays can be 24p, so there's no need for a speedup.

I know there is no need for speedup on blu-ray. Thats what I said. I meant there is a difference between my NTSC DVD's and what is listed on the Blu-ray packaging. These Blu-rays in the UK should have no speedup, and my US DVD set wasn't sped up so the Blu-rays and the DVDs should match. All my other Blu-ray's runtimes match their DVD counterparts match so why not these?

It is worth noting that the clip itself was created at the time of ROTS (2005) as a test by Rob Coleman from ILM. The clip we have been provided with is the same and needs some real refining. The opening shot of the council with yoda in his chair is off. The CGI model has no orange highlights like the rest of the room or cast. One can hope that as this was created over 5 years ago, it has gone through some substantial refinement prior to the Blu ray transfer. As I said, the clip might be indicative of content, but not of quality. Last edited by Merlinpants; 08-25-2011 at 09:37 AM. |

What if this was your first foray into the star wars universe? It is very arrogant to assume that everyone owns the DVD's. If the trailers are missing, it is a huge oversight IMHO. Last edited by Merlinpants; 08-25-2011 at 10:32 AM. |

http://uk.bluray.ign.com/articles/119/1190282p1.html
Greedo still shoots first in this version (although you may still see an original version of that scene in the set – hint, hint). Strange though that they have been to what appears to be the exact same presentation as every other preview, but they are the only ones to mention this? Are IGN known for their reliability? Edit: Yes they are. Han shoots first, but only in the deleted/extended scenes section on the disc. http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/...825-1jb1v.html Included in the 40 hours of special features in the latest release is original footage from iconic Star Wars moments, with the sound as it was recorded, not as it was later overdubbed. That means that instead of generic American voices for characters, the cockney twang of British actors can be clearly heard in scenes filmed at London's Pinewood Studios. And it's hilarious stuff. Most amusing is the ''Cantina scene'' where Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Obi Wan Kenobi (Sir Alec Guinness) drop into their local boozer to find a pilot who will take them off the planet. ''Oi!'' shouts the bartender in his best East End twang as they arrive: ''Get ya plates o' meat back up the apples and pears! We don't serve their kind in 'ere!'' Or words to that effect. Soon after we cut to a shot of Han, sitting in a booth, snogging a hitherto unseen date. Any leads on where the girl cut from the biggest movie of all time is now, will be greatfully received. Later, the alien thug Greedo wanders up to tear strips off Han Solo (Harrison Ford) for not paying his debts … and instead of the bleeps and gurgles fans are used to, once again he sounds like he should be pushing a barrow full of eel pies. (Oh, and for purists: Star Wars' creator has let the scene run long enough to finally clear up a long-debated point: yep, Han shot first.) Last edited by Merlinpants; 08-25-2011 at 11:08 AM. |

This must mean a UOT set is definitely in the works and they don't want to undercut sales of that set by undoing what would be one of its biggest selling points. Yup, that must be it ![]() |

If you feel like ruining disc 7 for yourself, read this. WARNING: it contains footage of some of the OT deleted scenes that look to be included on the Blu. I have resisted, I want to keep it fresh for the Blu.

Do you think it's possible that somewhere down the line GL would consider releasing the OUT - as a digital download-only release...? would it make even sense? I just thought of that idea and thought I'd throw it to the wind...
On the other hand, I can definitely see a 3D version sometime in the future. |
