Yeah, to be honest I wouldn't have even noticed if no one said anything.

One of the screw ups during the 2004 release, I believe.
[Show spoiler]

That one should be fixed.

Really, no big deal for me. The nooooooooooooo can be annoying to "real fans" but Vador looks less like a Frankenstein-mute-monster when he takes the Emperor to throw him away. The noooooooooooo only reflects he is now aware of the bad he's been making and he's scream to stop the madness. Don't you find it weird if Vador only takes the bad guy and throw it away without saying anything....?!

Anyway, I'm not a fighter, so I'll embrace the new "vision" of Lucas.

No, you're not the only one. I have zero issue with that. Honestly, if all the changes were so minor and seemless, I'd have no issue with the whole "special edition" changes in general...

Han Shoots First became a movement. I doubt Wide-Eyed Wicket will follow suit.

The apologist in you is showing along with , um... ya mean Vader?

Didn't notice Wicket blinking until someone mentioned it. I lol'ed afterwards. The only changes I don't like are the Dragon Call and Vader's no.
I don't give two ****s what else they change, but the Vader one really killed the finale for me.

Yes? Serkis has shown an interest in directing, and second unit is a good place to start. Serkis knows the LOTR style and feel better than most, and he's still working with a DP and following Jackson's vision. Directors let people direct all the time. Fincher let Sorkin, do a scene in Social Network and he never directed before either.

No, not at all. It worked for 28 years. The powerful music of John Williams and Vader's "expression" and head movements said it all. Looking at Luke, then the Emperor, then Luke, and then...did it all. Without saying a word, Vader's emotions were conveyed beautifully in Lucas' original vision for the scene.

Now it's been damaged by that laughable Noooo.

Which has the better picture and audio: the LD or the non-anamorphic Theatrical DVDs?

There are a few differences here and there, but i need to go over the audio side of things again. But they screwed up at the end. When they are preparing the Death Star's laser, You could always clearly hear the operators saying "stand by" twice. Well try to hear them saying anything in this mix. It's so far back in the mix they might as well have been whispering it. And they still haven't taken those damn X-wing sound effects from the Falcon vs TIE battle as they escape the death Star. This was an error created in 1997 and never sorted. Yeh, the dialogue is clearer and seems to mix together between alternate audio takes, unlike the 2004 mix and the surround swapping for the music seems to have been fixed in the rear channels also but sometimes the sound effects just seem to drown everything out.

The 1080p picture quality however, colour problems aside, is very good. Detail is very high with a noticeable amount of fine grain. So at least they didn't "Predatorise" these movies
Oh , and only that 1 shot that features lightsabers has been altered throughout the whole movie. Obi-Wan still gets his purple lightsabre in some shots and the sabre still goes out and the sabre aboard the falcon alternates between green and blue. Instead of adding damn rocks in front of R2, maybe they should have spent the time to fix these issues?
So they brought back the fanfare on the death star run, but drown the music out everywhere else?!?!? And...ILM can go back, add cute little eye blinks to the ewoks, throw a bunch of boulders in front of R2, cgi Yoda in TPM, but, can't fix the simpleist of things, like changing a white, flickering lightsaber to blue? Not to mention the "new" sound of Obi-wan blowing out an o-ring and a welcoming 2nd wave of Vader "No's"!!!!!

That pretty much explains as to "why" the actual blu's weren't shown at the press event a week or so ago - only examples of what they "may" look like, if you're high as a kite!!!!! Lucasfilm spent what, 3-4 years working on these? More time to screw even more things up.

I went from cautiously excited that SW is being released, to way excited (after the press event), to just flat out pissed. There's absolutely no excuse for this half-a**ed release, especially with the time that was spent. It feels like we were lied to, in regards to what Lucasfilm stated at the press event. Am I wrong, or did they say that they went through every film with a fine toothed comb and fixed everything that was wrong - both visually and on the audio side?

Damn, just damn....

As if Lucasfilm will admit to this stuff before the discs hit shelves. There's a reason they didn't show any pics or footage from the actual Blu-rays, and now we know what that reason is.

This is not the change people are freaking out about.

Truthfully, if these were movie-only BDs, I would cancel my pre-order. But I want those extras, and yes I still want the PT. Folding the extras into the set is a good way for 'them' to assure sales of their inferior OT. Although it escapes me why these changes are being made in the first place. At this point, I think George is just *bleep*ing with us.

People misuse the phrase 'it goes without saying' all the time but you know, when you lift your boss over your head and throw him down a reactor shaft the fact that you've had something of a change of heart can pretty safely go without saying.

Until now, anyway.

The thing is.......those two audio clips are REALLY poorly mixed. They sound like somebody just layed them on top of the movie instead of carefully, thoughtfully blended them in. I used to do some production audio mixing and this is a poor job. The audio sounds so blantant from a technical perspective and doesn't feel like part of the movie at all. You can clearly hear the sonic fidelity of the original film track, then this "NOO!" comes in and it doesn't even match "fidelity wise" at all. The same goes with the Obi-Wan scream, it's fidelity is different then that of the film and you can plainly hear it. So, for me....One, I question just how these guys got their jobs or training as they are mixing and matching audio sources of varying fidelity that clearly stand out and butt heads when you hear them. Two, that they would even consider changing them, let alone especially in the case of the ROTJ ending, which was EPIC to begin with and now is something more of a joke. Which is why we have to hear a response to this officially, cause it's so poorly done from both a technical and artistic standpoint, that it's no wonder so many hear this and go.....No Way!......some fan trying to be funny joke. I mean, that's how bad they are. You'd expect to see this from some fan playing a joke on YouTube.

Ahhh, the mis-information train is a-rolling.

Actually, the actual Blu-rays WERE there to be viewed by those invited.
Every one of the websites chose to check out the extras instead.
They watched some footage from a couple of the films, but mostly paid attention to that.

You realize those are exactly what they are. It's the audio file of the Howl and the No.. layered on the existing DVD footage.

That was already mentiond ages ago when those clips surfaced. They're not clips of the scene from the actual Blu-Ray.

FWIW, at the moment the press event is the only thing that makes me hesitant to accept these rips as the final product. Why would LFL go out of their way to spend time and money to pull a head-fake with the final product? That's pretty much the only way that they could have guaranteed a worse fan backlash, mocking in both the geek and mainstream press, and lower sales. If they had just kept quiet, they would have had plausible deniability. But when you have your team members as being quoted as saying that they read the blogs, and you include changes mocked by non-fans in the mainstream media, you're essentially admitting that you're trolling.

Seriously, if this is real, then not only does George Lucas have a poor ear, but so do his "professionals" who work there, if they can't tell how bad and out of place these sound. Not only that, but the mixing is just downright poor. Seriously, if this is real, it puts into question, for me at least, the professionalism of him and his team as this is really shody, not to mention in bad taste.
I noticed the same thing. The "No. Nooooo!" just sounds horrible. Could be its a crappy MP3 rip, but it sounds like it just thrown on top of the audio mix without being, ya know, mixed in. Like the levels are waaaay off. Regardless, I still find it hilarious (and am hoping this is all fake). But with Lucas, and the shoddy work done on the DVDs, I cannot rule this out either. Ugh.

Btw, I have zero problems with the Wicket blinking. I just hope they did it for all of them and not just the one scene.
