that's crazy!

I've never heard of a THX certified movie not having a THX optimizer included.

My living room TV has THX Mode, so it's perfectly optimized already, but I was hoping to re-calibrate my bedroom TV using the Star Wars discs.

Yes, I watched episode I, II, III and IV today. PQ/AQ is excellent on AOTC, I'd say a couple of steps up from TPM on both fronts, particularly PQ.
Thanks for checking. How is the consistency in A/V quality from film to film, especially going from III to IV?

I am having so much fun watching so many so called "Fans of star wars" just lose their minds over something they have no control over and never will.

Well, III is probably the best looking of the bunch. But I must say I was pretty impressed by how good the PQ was on IV, age and all other things considered. Definition and detail is mostly surprisingly good. Sometimes the black levels are all over the place. The most noticable thing for me, going from III to IV, was the fine layer of grain in IV. AQ wise, IV doesn't come close to I-III, but that was as expected.

I am keeping the DVDs. Watching them, window boxed, like a postage stamp in the center of the screen. I'll just sit closer. Haven't tried them on new BD player, hoping they upgrade nicely. But even if they don't, I am sticking with them.

Is there black crush like in the night scenes in AOTC? Or are they just inconsisent throughout?

Nothing like that in AOTC. In IV however, in some scenes, the black levels are too bright, and it becomes very obvious during a scene change.

Thanks crs!! I'm more excited than ever!!

Star Wars on blu-ray is what I've been waiting for since I moved to HD and upgraded my whole home theater in 2007. I had Star Wars in my mind since day one.

If you guys want to check out Spike TV, they're having a Star Wars marathon this weekend. Occasionally (during commercial breaks) they will show a short snippet from the blu-ray Bonus Discs. Just saw one about Darth Maul.

I think this was posted a few days ago, but just a heads up to those who haven't heard.

There's also some kind of promotion where you log onto Spike.com and enter the sweepstakes and you could win the Complete Saga on blu-ray... I can't find any way to enter on their site...

EDIT:

Falcon Training vid coming VERY soon. It's uploading now, about 80% done. Next 10-15 minutes there will be a link posted!

While all links and the early commercials said that you should be able to sign up @spike.com, from their FB page, it appears that it was a text in thing and it did appear durring TPM, but I havent seen anything so far in AOTC....

The Tie Fighters look identical to me! In fact the only changes I see are that the Falcon's green laser shot is now red, and that two Tie Fighters that were incorrectly shown over the Millennium Falcon are now gone. (Which may have been done in '97 or '04, I didn't compare those)

This comparison was done from the YouTube video you provided against the 2006 DVD QuickTime file of the unaltered (non-special edition) 1983 version of Return of the Jedi.

Here's the link to the image (http://stayornay.com/media/starwars-...e-compare1.jpg)

Did you notice the battledroids in TPM and AOTC having different voices or are they the same robotic tones as before?

Thanks again. I'm glad to hear about the grain in IV. I would rather have all the grain structure intact, than to have even a hint of DNR &/or EE.

I'm no professional when it comes to this stuff, but from what I've read, film grain is not a seperate thing from the actual movie image, but that the image itself is actually imprinted onto the film grain. Right?

As light hits film, it affects the halide crystals on the film, these crystals dissolve and/or change colour when the film is processed. Because the patterns of these crystals (there are thousands per frame) will never be exactly the same, they create the "noise" we call film grain. But the grains you're seeing are actually the crystals.

Sort of. The film image is made up of grain... without grain, you have no image. It just depends on the film stock, amount of light, etc as to how large the grain is. Often, night scenes are much grainier because the ISO of the film is higher, or the stock is pushed. The exact same principle is true in digital... the lower the light, the higher the video noise. The two formats work exactly the same way in that regard.

Thanks. So anytime DNR is appied to remove grain, detail from the original image is always reduced, right?

Sorry, back on topic: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
