We have a winner.

1995 THX - "Final home video release"
1997 Special Edition - "In theaters only"
2006 dvd - "Limited Edition"
2011 BD - "Definitive version of the films"

People keep buying every updated version hoping/believing it's the last one, and George keeps pulling a fast one. People don't learn, I guess.

Personally, I dont think the leaked rip is totally legit. One scene that should have been fixed is on the Shuttle as they approach Endor, you can see Endor through Han`s head, which would have taken a few minutes to correct. I thought that scene was pretty poor quality on the rip and hope it was just a compression thing.
The rips are pretty much confirmed to be legit at this point, as the changes visible in the rip have been confirmed by Lucasfilm. I mean, it's theoretically possible they ripped some half-finished check disc, but that's definitely a stretch, when it's far more likely that leak popped up when the finished discs shipped to various warehouses and retailers.

There are plenty of problems leftover from 2004 that would have literally taken seconds to correct, but were not touched up.

Less than week to go and still no official reviews? Anybody think Lucasfilm is trying to keep hush what we already know? Fixes were minor and new additions infuriating?

the rips are confirmed to be legit? I dont really believe an ambiguous statement through a journalist that says they confirm some of the rumours mean that the rips are legit. Also they dont say what rumours, beside Darth saying NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Unless I missed the confirmation of the rest. It might be the case, and I will be dissapointed, but holding out that they will be better than the rips.

I have read that some people have the real blu rays, but then there are videos put up, like a few pages ago there was a video from the Millennium Falcon of the training scene ( I posted a response, but due to quoting I am waiting on it being verified, since I just signed up) and that looks like a total fake 5 minute edit in the first ten seconds. Watch the sabre jiggle about, no artist would keep his job if that was his output So how do we judge real from fake?

I posted that video.

Watch the DVD, the VHS, the LaserDiscs, that jiggle has been there since 1977. They didn't redo the effects, they just changed the colour of the saber glow.

This is coming from the same rip that has the rocks added in front of R2 and Ben's new howl... so I doubt it's fake.

Think about it. If the rips are some sort of fan edit, don't you think they would have taken the time to fix things properly? Instead there are a bunch of half-assed edits, seems more like something LucasFilms would do!

Look! From the DVD!

The same jiggle!

The reason for this is because there is no prop blade on that saber. That's why it looks so smooth when Luke turns it off (compared to the jump shots seen elsewhere in the film, where the prop saber was exchanged for the hilt-only prop). Because of this, it makes it harder for the FX artist to accurately paint the blade, because there's nothing to trace, it's all guesswork.

I will be checking out the ANH rip tomorrow and see what it is like. I didnt mean to imply you faked it, but if you look at where the "blade" meets the hilt it totally overlaps and I cant believe this is not fixed when they have those 3 levels of QA they talked about.

I see where you're coming from. Someone could have taken an HD broadcast and made these changes.

But would they really have added rocks in front of R2-D2? Would they really have made Vader scream "NOOO!"?

Most fans want the make the films better, not add in unnecessary things like these.

As I said before, there were tons of other mistakes that were not fixed. Ben's saber during the fight with Vader still has no white core for part of the fight. Just the blue glow over the metal rod. I posted screens of it a while back.

my post still hasnt appeared, but I wrote that the ewok blinking is really only Wicket blinking. there are no other ewoks that have cg eyes or that blink. Check it out and let me know if I missed it, but there are a few up close shots of other ewoks and they have the black eyes. and there are really only 2, maybe 3 blinks that I saw.

my point being that if the decision is to make ewoks blink then why only Wicket? and in only 2/3 shots

I haven't got ESB or ROTJ yet.

But that doesn't surprise me. All of the changes we've seen so far seem to be on a shot by shot basis.

Some shots in a scene are fixed, others are left as they were.

I read earlier that the sabers are constantly changing from being vivid with a white core to being washed out with a coloured core throughout Empire Strikes Back.

Even in ANH (Ben vs. Vader), in some shots, the sabers have been retouched so they're bright blue and red. In other shots, they're the same as 2004, so light red and violet... and they can switch back and forth 7-8 times in a minute...

yeah, all the fixed vs unfixed makes me think we are not seeing the final product with these leaks. I noticed the "pole" shot you posted and thought that one odd to not have fixed, that always pulled me out of the film. Luckily rocks in front of R2 keep me immersed

Maybe they're just doing this to give us a glimpse of what to expect for the next release.

crs,

You have the UK version of the box set, correct? Would you mind telling me what foreign language tracks the UK version includes? Your help would be most appreciated!

Thanks for your time!

To the folks that have the discs already. Do the special features such as deleted scenes and featurettes take up the full screen or do they play in a smaller window similar to how they played on the iPad app that was released?

Thanks for posting.

GEEZ the lightsaber looks bad in that scene. **SIGH** It boggles the mind that such blatant inconsistency was allowed through. You can see scratches and lines in the oversized white core like someone scribbled it in with MS Paint. I'll just have to grit my teeth in those scenes and power through. (Though I'll be sad inside)

Did anyone even stop to think that maybe it is supposed to look like this if it does look like this everywhere.

If Vader's light saber looked like your avatar, I would be disapointed that it was that red.

Well even if there was zero changes, it wouldn't change the fact that when a movie is released on an improved format (DVD after VHS, blu-ray after DVD) it will be (or should be) the definitive version.

The chances of there being another version of any of the films on blu-ray are slim to none. Everything on blu-ray is supposed to be the definitive version - until the next format comes around.
