The winner is already leading

Seriously though, if the Spike marathon doesn't get you hyped up for the BD, well then you deal in absolutes!

And that's the rub with this whole so-called arc. The ten year old Ani is a fairly sympathetic character. The adult Anikan is not. We don't see a basically decent guy seduced by the dark side. We see a self-indulgent douche become an even more self-indulgent douche.

If that appeals to you as a writer so be it.

It did not appeal to me as a viewer.
That's the beauty of character - all things are connected.

And again, no one has issues with Luke being whiny and just as bad an actor as Hayden, but that's just apologetic OT love.

Although his "character" on the show is notoriously anti-prequels and gets fired for throwing a kid out his store for liking Jar-Jar.

uh....Mark's performance in Empire Strikes Back was pretty damn great. And he showed great restraint in Return Of The Jedi. Sold the electrocution scene well. ANH was the only one where he was "whiny", but that's because he was a young man that wanted to escape the farm and live adventurous. Hayden's a better actor than we give him credit for (see - Shattered Glass), but nothing he did in the prequels comes close to Mark Hamill in the OT.

The new poll is misleading.

Most of the people who genuinely enjoy the entire Star Wars saga have looooong since abandoned this miserable thread. The only people remaining are the ones that truly hate George Lucas, the few that are standing up for him, and a handful of newbies who opened this thread without knowing what kind of hell they're getting themselves into.

Elijah Wood's possession by the ring occurred over the course of 3 films. Or did you miss that?
In the books maybe... In the movies he fainted a couple of times, had headaches, turned invisible once or twice and whined and moaned for the rest of the time... In the end he stands on Mount Doom and says "The Ring is Mine!" in a pretty cheesy way, turns evil for five minutes until Gollum bites his finger and sails away with the elves...

How is the new poll misleading again? Obviously, things have changed since the first poll was created. More people view the thread than post in it as the poll results already show . Anyways, I did include (new poll) in the thread title for visibility across the entire forum. And, before it comes up...I'll be checking ips to make sure that sock accounts are not created to skew the results of the poll.

Complete saga. Despite 75% of Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones being truly piss-poor. And further unwarranted alterations to the original trilogy.

Yeah, but it seems like that's something that they should be able to stabilize and make look less like a jump cut with today's digital technology. That combined with the remaining color timing issues and some of the simply outdated saber effects are some fairly big problems for something that he apparently wants to looks as close to being a brand new movie as possible.

If he is going to keep tweaking the movies, this is the kind of stuff he should be focusing on as opposed to some of the more pointless crap that he seems to spend his time with. While the lack of the UOT being available would still be a thorn in many people's sides, I doubt that too many people would react negatively to updates of that nature in the most recent versions... certainly not as negatively as they have to the "Nooooooo", etc.
YES, I am! IF the leaks are the actual BDs, then I am pretty darn disappointed in GL, as he changes seemingly random stuff, such as R2D2 behind rocks, but forgets about updating the lightsabers in the OT to better match the PT.

I really thought they had gone all the way this time, and the PR from Lucasfilm also made me believe that.

If I were Lucas, I would have delivered the ultimate experience, replaced, or at least enhanced Yoda in V, VI, and Jabba in VI, and all the jazz.

I still can't believe that the leaks are the final versions, and I, for once, completely agree with you.

Besides, the real digital Yoda would be made to blend in if it was actually done. Though I doubt it ever would be.

I know Puppet-Yoda is sacred. I understand and I get it. But realistically, after being spoiled with Digital-Yoda, who is capable of a wider emotional range of acting and lip-syncing, the puppet Yoda will stand out like a sore thumb when the films are watched consecutively.

Me too. Puppet Yoda is no match for ROTS Yoda.

Sounds great. Does the digital Yoda in TPM look exactly like the one in the YouTube clip?

Thanks.

Star Wars on blu-ray is what I've been waiting for since I moved to HD and upgraded my whole home theater in 2007. I had Star Wars in my mind since day one. [/QUOTE]

Same here!!!! Can't wait, despite the disappointment. At least the PT is going to rock!

But in the past ten years, something changed. Fans became more cynical, argumentative, egotistical, and judgmental. Now it seems, if you simply enjoy the films, don't mind or like the alterations, and still manage to chill out and get a kick out of Star Wars, you're an "apologist" - perhaps the silliest term I've ever come across with regards to an individuals enjoyment of a piece of fiction. It seems that to be a Star Wars fan anymore, you have obsess over miniscule alterations, talk down to everyone around you, think George Lucas is some kind of evil magician out to destroy your childhood, and take everything about Star Wars deadly seriously. Where's the fun or enjoyment in that? Honestly? How is your life bettered by endlessly bickering over frames in a film? Whether a character says a single word? I'm not angry or bitter about this development. If anything, I truly pity those who get worked up over such things.

With that said, by all means argue over a single word of dialogue, a slight change of color of a lightsaber, or blinking Ewoks, or whatever the hell else you guys can find a way to bitch about. These changes don't alter the message of the films and certainly should not deter any sane individual from being able to enjoy the films as is, whether you're for the changes or not. In a couple of weeks I'm going to be watching Star Wars in HD with lossless audio. That is something I've literally been waiting for for over a decade for. You guys cancelling your pre-orders over non-sensical fanboy ramblings can choose not to all you want. I hope your content with your decision. Me, I'm gonna have lightsabers kicking my subwoofers ass for a few hours.
Good post! The world has become such a cynical place.

It changes the entire scene. It's not just simply "a word". Vader's body language was sufficient enough. We KNEW what he was thinking. For the last 28 years, we've known. You didn't need him to emote verbally then, and you don't need him to now. People who defend the change are rationalizing out of their undying love for Star Wars. They can't help themselves. It's akin to adding in "I'M MELLLTTTINNNNGGG!" to the Nazi at the end of Raiders Of The Lost Ark when he opens the Ark. No shit you're melting, we can see it plain as day. And no shit Vader is torn between his loyalty to the Emperor and his love for his son, we knew that as the camera shifted back and forth continously for a minute.

If you wanna see a terrible turn to the dark side watch Elijah Wood in the climax of "Return Of The King". That scene doesn't work at all for me...
Yeah, LOTR has the least character arc of any film. Pure junk and boredom.

I am actually looking forward to checking out and spotting new changes. I do wish the unaltered originals of all six films were available, but like I said before that was never going to be an option on this set. It is what it is I reckon.

Glad I got the opportunity to re-cast my vote.

I originally intended to buy this set but changed my mind after being reminded about how bad I felt after spending $50 on the DVDs in 2004 and discovering shortly thereafter how badly they were screwed with. But I've actually been on the fence with the BD's, not knowing exactly what I wanted since the quality would no doubt be incredible regardless of changes to the material. I had to vote "NO" as I am now thoroughly convinced this product is not for me.

However, I will continue to follow this thread and news of this release as well as read the early reviews. I'm still in love with SW, just not what's become of the films.

For someone that claims to be a writer in Hollywood you dont know much about writing if you think that the PT was ummm good. Oh and another thing I just about laughed my ass off when I read you thought the OT films were "B" films. Again for someone that "claims" to live in LA and that is a writer you must not know what a "B" film is. Is this a Beast account? Good to see that you are letting BluYoda and the rest of your friends get away with murder on these boards mods....
