Very much looking forward to this.

My roommate are doing an all-night Spielberg celebration tonight to "warm up" to Lucas for tomorrow and we're heading to an 8 am opening here in Canada at FS for a bunch of free goodies

Very excited for the whole event - nothing wrong with the next few days!

Looking at the screenshots at caps-a-holic it is about what I thought. Episodes 1-3 actually show a very large increase in detail and picture quality. The dvd for episode 3 easily holds up the best in terms of PQ, but again in terms of PQ the bluray easily bests it.

Now looking at the original trilogy not so much. The dvd's done by Lowry are some of the most stunning I have ever seen. Easily 5 star material for the time in 2004 for PQ. Since the blurays are the same 7 year old masters with minor tweaks based off 1.9K scans unfortunately the upgrade is moderate at best. The real shame is for a dvd set that made $100 million during it's first day of release 4K scans and transfers really should have been done and were easily affordable considering the profit margin. The difference would have been far more apparent and many of the effects shots were redone for the 2004 dvd anyway! Meaning they could have been redone properly at 4K with the other effects upscaled. (Anyone doubting this can simply compare Alien, Aliens(4K) to Alien3 or Alien Resurrection(1.9K) or Live and Let Die, Moonraker (4K) to The Man with the Golden Gun or For Your Eyes Only.)
Even Lowry himself admitted 1.9K would never cut it for hddvd or bluray at the time of his statement some years back.

It appears we have to wait for the eventual 3-D release of the OT 2015-17 and the bluray release to see these titles looking thier best.

Great link!!!

I actually enjoyed the wolfman in the original. The other ridiculous change is Ben's dragon call. Don't even see why it was needed....it's like tinkering for no reason.

George loves to randomly change things for no apparent reason. Get that OCD checked out George. When Robert Wise did a director's edition for Star Trek: The Motion Picture, he altered shots to the way he had originally planned (as seen on the original storyboards) and improved the pacing by trimming scenes with long pauses. The theatrical is still available regardless.

I can't wait to get them but I agree.

Wish they had just transferred the original for Blu-Ray and had that on the set. Or maybe 2 releases.

Overally - still psyched. Like I said, this is my first buy of any of them. Blu-ray and the audio will make it amazing!

Wow. Finally caught up on reading this thread (for the time being, anyways!)

I'm hitting up Wal-Mart at midnight for this, very glad i didn't Amazon order it. Gonna pick it up, come home and watch one before i sleep. Maybe ROTS, see how good that PQ is. I'm gonna wait to watch them in theatrical release order until my girl can watch with me, as she somehow has never seen them before.

Can't wait! The child in me has really come out the last few days in anticipation, i've been searching for lightsabers and other trinkets online constantly the last week or so

Oh, and I'm going complete saga. The PT isn't as good as the OT, but i still love it. My mum suprised me when TPM came out by taking me outta school to see it first day (I was 11 then, lived in the country so it was an hour drive to the cinema) and saw the others all opening weekend at least. ROTS in cinema was epic, and that was when i was 17, and it felt like my coming of age when it finished. I just sat there for a moment after it finished thinking "Wow. It's done."

Yes i know all the flaws, the terrible acting, the plot holes. You know what? I don't care. I'm still taken into a world so vividly entertaining, and for two or so hours i forget everything that may be wrong in my world and just sit there, dumb smile on my face for those hours, enthralled. That goes for all six films.

I'm not bashing on those who hate them, to each his/her own. That's just how i feel.

Also huuuugely looking forward to all those special features! As one who has an interest in film making (screenwriting is my thing, but it's all interesting to me) i can't wait to sit my arse in place with a beer for hours and watch endless amounts of doco's

Honestly, none of it entertains me in the slightest. This discussion has been Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz for pages now.

Mine just shipped!

Mine didn't!

Mine says ____!

Mine says _____!

I'd prefer to go back to bickering about revisionism, at least it didn't put me to sleep.

Correction: Perhaps you don't remember such a very publicly high profile film being handled like this.

When I used to run a review site, I occasionally had studios be VERY picky about release dates - even the release date of the review. Often, this is either a sign of lack of confidence in the quality (they don't want negative reviews spoiling sales), or an attempt to prevent pre-release pirating.

Either way, I'd get screeners with a pretty clear threat from the studio: "If you want to continue to get stuff from us, you won't break the embargo."
