Uh, I never said it was an indicator of "people's rejection of the new set". I just think that the sales numbers were "unimpressive" (in Darth Vaders voice).

The sales numbers seem to be keeping in line with typical Star Wars first-day sales. Didn't Avatar sell one million copies? Star Wars sold half that. On DVD, Star Wars also sold half of Finding Nemo's first-day copies.

Although I won't lie - I expected the numbers for Star Wars to be about a million or so myself, especially with all the pre-orders and everything.

I think first days numbers on Star Wars were 2.5 million and Nemo was 8 million. Avatar sold 1.5 million copies on Blu Ray for the first day and 4 million first week.

I am not trying to start a flame war with all the "lucas lovers" and no, I am not 100% completely happy with this release (80% would be my number). I am just not impressed with the numbers. A lot of forum members expected this to "sell out" and "make sure you pre order a copy" . I saw a TON of copies on the shelf so obviously someone thought that more copies would sell.

Yeah, that´s why this thread makes little sense anymore. You can´t even share your opinion without getting attacked immediately or getting suspended. I can´t believe the discussion has come to a point where you have to convince people that movies might actually have a deeper meaning besides the pure plot of it. The funny part is that even that fact gets laughed upon just because they either don´t see or don´t get it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I have no problem with someone simply disagreeing with me.

But it's getting really, REALLY old pointing out actual, logical flaws in the movie and having to have the same ONE person come back with explanations of symbolism, etc, that may explain the meaning behind it in some cases (in other cases I do think he is often wrong or looking for things that aren't actually there), but doesn't really explain what many otherwise consider to be poor execution.

Bad acting and poor character development cannot simply be explained away by symbolic meaning. Many of those things, while not perfect, were executed much better in the OT with the symbolism, etc, still remaining firmly intact.

Now, if Shft Windu or anyone else just happens to disagree on feeling that the execution was poor and instead they feel it was handled well, fine. We can just leave it at "agree to disagree" and that's all she wrote.

But he keeps using all of this myth and symbolism crap to essentially say that other people are simply wrong for having a negative opinion of how certain aspects of the PT were handled. That's the difference here. Otheres like you and Beast are often saying things like how everyone is entitled to their opinion and how differing opinions aren't "wrong" to have, yet in a round-about way, Shaft IS saying that our opinons are wrong.

And he's really the only one doing this. While there have been several people on the pro-PT/Saga side, no one else is really pulling the same kind of crap that he is, including you. At this point you are only guilty of defending him doing this.

While I very much see and am aware of much of the symbolism in the films (and have been aware of it for a long time, long before ever "meeting" Shaft Windu in this thread), and while I'm sure many other people see it as well, I would think that even some of the people on the pro PT/Saga side have to be rolling their eyes at some of the stuff he is saying at this point, even if they aren't posting about it. I doubt most people are looking as OVERLY deeply into this the way that he is.

I'm sure you'll get a conflicting answer from someone else but the archive commentaries are awesome. They have tons of interview snippets from almost every actor and production person closely involved in the films. Very informative and alot of fun to listen to. I always like it when they make almost like a audio documentary with these type commentaries. Criterion has done this style of commentary in the past. I hope this helps.

I haven't been suspended once in this entire thread. I guess I play by the rules.

Seriously though, there's a huge gulf between disagreeing with statements people make and "insulting the hell out of them". If you can't see the difference, maybe that's why you've needed "vacations".

Those are just the initial numbers, as the set will keep selling. 515,000 for the first few days of release is a huge number for a catalog title retailing for $80. Blu-ray's share of the week's home video revenue vs DVD will be another record...besting the current 27% share that was obtained a few months ago. The people should be happy that the set sold very well as that increases the chances of a UOT release. Poor sales of the current release = a zero chance of GL releasing the UOT...it's business sense.

Good. The more buyers, the more complaints for a redo for Episode 3.

Thanks for the reply! This is the one I was thinking of going with.

Although I'm torn between the Complete Saga with commentary vs. picking up the Clone Wars Season 1.

I was surfing for info about the Blu-Ray sales results (unforutately I didn't save the exact link) that basically said that this set a sales record for a catalog release on Blu-Ray, so that is a rather big deal.

What is unfortunate is that any possible future BD releases of the films (if any) will never sell as well as this first set. And since there are a few disapointing aspects like the DNR in Phantom Menace, the sound not being quite as good in ROTS, some of the color timing problems in the OT still being something of an issue, and some effects that logically would have made sense to fix/redo (i.e. many of the lightsaber effects in the OT, which look outdated, especially in ANH)... what is unfortunate about this is that Lucas may not be as likely to fix these things, at least not specifically for a future home video release (perhaps some may be improved/fixed for the 3D release), and even if we get new versions on Blu-Ray later with some of this stuff improved, they will never sell as well as this initial set.

It's not the end of the world by any means. This is still a big improvement over the DVD releases, and at least some of the bigger issues from the DVD OT have been addressed, like the coloring problems in some of the lightsaber shots, but still, it would have been nice if these things had been handled better.

Hmm, for those down on the numbers, curious on what they think the metric should be for good sales and what they base it on.

515,000 x $80 = $41,200,000 in home video revenue in North America alone...worldwide $87 million in a few days for a product that just about everyone owns in various formats and has been viewed a plethora of times by just about everybody. Think they'll take the money .

Well, with all the complaints against the audio in ROTS, at least they lined up the troopers footsteps with the stomping sounds in the soundtrack as they march to wipe out the Jedi in the temple. Used to be waaaaay off!

Both are great, but I'd listen to the archive one first. It features more speakers and for the OT it features far more rare commentators including Alec Guinness.

The other tracks were recorded for the DVD releases. They're great listens, but in the case of the PT they often talk about the upcoming films in the future tense as they weren't made yet at the time of the recording.

Archive comms for the PT features a lot of Sam Jackson, Christopher Lee and Ian McDiarmid. All three tell great stories and are fun speakers.
