The Youngling stuff is expanded on in The Clone Wars series episode 'Children of the Force.' The children are sent away to learn Jedi skills so they can't be used or corrupted by the Dark Side of the Force. I don't think it's a Summer Camp....

It's amazing really!

All those happy with the set seem to think it did good in sales.

All those disapointed with the set seem to think it did poor in sales.

While there is plenty of symbolism, etc, in these films, you are looking so hard for it that at times you are creating it in your own mind where at times there is none. At the end of the day, regardless of any intetional or (on your part) perceived ad hoc symbolism, these are basically meant to be simple, fun popcorn movies. Not this source of "wisdom" that you keep building them up to be. You are putting these films on such an absurd pedastal that it's not even funny. You are almost treating them like the basis for an actual religion that you follow or something. Even most of the other people who tend to be on the extreme end of the "Pro-PT/Saga" side of the arguement aren't taking anywhere near as seriously as you are.

As far as this virgin birth thing goes, this isn't an issue of the source of the concept or how many other times it has been used. The problem is that Anakin is raised on a pedastal little more reason than he is going to become Darth Vader and he is important to us as the audience.

And never once in the OT is this "chosen one" thing even brought up. You would think that would have come up at some point when Luke was talking with Obi Wan and/or Yoda. The idea that his father was meant to destroy the Sith but instead became one (prior to destroying the Emperor in ROTJ) seems like a pretty big piece of info that they probably should have queued Luke on after the truth of Vader being his father was revealed. Instead he was just a Jedi that they were close to who was seduced by the dark side of the force.

The chosen one was something shoe-horned in after the fact to make him more important than he was ever built up to be.

The funny thing about your comment about how terrible a version of the PT by the "haters" would be is that if Lucas had instead come up with a version more similar to that, you'd be defending it left and right. Like I said previously, if Lucas were to change these films where all of the spoken verbally spoken dialogue was put into subtitles, with the voices removed and replaced by the sounds of cats meowing, you would be defending it up and down to no end, and coming up with how there's some "wonderful symolism" in that change.

I'm also not saying that I hate everything about the PT. I posted some thoughts about the films in an earlier post mentioning things that I liked. And having recently rewatched them in full, there are many aspects that I did enjoy, and had fun watching them again (particularly Episodes II and III.... I was okay, but still the film that I like the least). There are still some gaping flaws in the films in my opinion, and that's just the way that it's going to be. Visually the films are impressive, it's just too bad the directing of the dialogue and acting wasn't better, and that a few things weren't more well thought out.

But feel free to keep collectively calling everyone that criticizes anything about the films "haters" (I and a few others already 100% debunked your previous stupid sweeping generalizations about how everyone complains about effects-based changes, but pointed out how some weren't changes in effects and that many changed the dynamic and possible symbolism of certain scenes), and keep skipping over the positive views that are at times expressed. You've been doing an awesome job of completely missing the point ever since you started posting here. I don't expect that the change anytime soon. May the force be with your continued train-wreck postings!
I'm drawn to these movies they are as layered and challenging as they are - and not because I like everything Lucas does. That would be stupid! Lucas gained more and more of my respect with each new Star Wars movie. The movies speak to me because they are designed to illustrate the hero's journey and the dynamic and evoltion of the human psyche. If you learn to quiet your mind one day they will be speaking to you. But it's like with the cave on Dagobah (or with art in general): You'll only find what you bring with you!

A version by the "critics" (lets call them that) would be terrible... It would have been a carbon copy of the old movies just with the plot of a video-game. Anakin would have no psychological depth. He would have been a "badaass", angry soldier from the get go who would easily and quickly turn to the dark side. No virgin-birth, no mother, no love-story, no midichlorians, no funny sidekicks, no republic turning into an Empire... Just Battlefields and spacebattles like in a "Force Unleashed" video-game or in a Cameron-movie.

If Star Wars had turned out that way I would have lost interest in the franchise immediately.

The original trilogy that was released in 2004 sold 2.5 million copies world wide on the FIRST DAY! I know it was the first release on DVD, it was cheaper, didn't include the prequels.....

I guess I see your point.

That said, it seems like this is the BASH Star Wars insult Lucas thread (at times). I kind of wish there was a "I like SW" thread where people, well could talk about what they like about SW.

If you just come here and dump on SW then it gets old.

You're thrown into a strange, exotic world where you have to figure out the rules as you go along. A version of the prequels by the haters would be terrible! The Anakin / Shmi dynamic is the most important part of Episode 1.
There are a lot of people in this thread who are out of their element and should be embarrassed... but he isn't one of them.

How do you think that thread would go in general?

You must learn to accept the good with the bad.

Your idea would just revert to this. You would need a Why I like Star Wars OT and a separate why I like Star Wars PT thread with a super scrubbing moderator who would erase anything that suggested a trilogy wasn't that good. And for what, to shield you from negative comments? There's an easy solution. Go and hug your Star Wars set, watch and enjoy it and don't click on this thread.

They should have never have made her lizardy form her real self. You shouldn't mess with a hotchick.

I mentioned before that she should have changed into Anakin and picked up his lightsaber (or Obi could have given it too her like he did with Anakin) and Obi-Wan and Zam could have had a nice little lightsaber barfight, where she loses her arm. In the background Anakin should be playing pinball or a Podracing arcade game....

Ah! I forgot...the rules of the thread...jabs are only allowed in one direction.

My apologies!

Last night I completed my second full viewing of all 6 movies. Anyone as actually seem them more then twice already in one week? I will put my set away for a while and watch them again a little bit later. This set as made a back log of other things as I have not watch anything but Star Wars in a week, including The Padawan Menace which is not much with its 5 minutes little shorts and a 20 minute feature.

"I killed them all women and children" not a problem lets still get married.

" He killed younglings" more kids, Still not enough for Pad to worry about her relationship with Anakin. "lets get away form here".

Ok now he actually trying to kill me with a choke hold, final last words about this guy" i still sense good in him"

Well, I just finished all six movies, and I was very happy with the set

I watched them in IV-V-I-II-III-VI order, and it worked very well! ANH and ESB set the stage for the SW universe, with the big reveal in ESB intact (though I have seen the movies many, many times as a kid). TPM, AotC, and RotS provided a good "flashback" to Anakin's rise and fall before seeing his redemption in RotJ.

Overall, I was very impressed with how good the OT looked! The blinking ewok eyes were a nice addition, though the other changes were okay. Jabba's bigger door does seem awkwardly sized and Obi-wan's Kryat dragon howl sounds really wrong. As for the infamous "NOOOO!", while it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, my girlfriend and I were still rolling our eyes at that. I still prefer the silence in that scene, but the NOOO isn't a deal breaker, and people shouldn't boycott the set based solely on that

The prequels were, admittidly, better than I remember, though still not up to the OT's level. TPM is still my favorite of the prequels as it feels like the OT in terms of story and pacing. If you take away Jar Jar and midichlorians, TPM is an excellent movie (plus the Darth Maul fight is the best lightsaber duel in the whole saga). AotC is sorely unbalanced. When it was good, it was good (pretty much when Obi-Wan, Jango Fett, Dooko, or Palpatine were on screen), but when it was bad, it was bad (any scene with Anakin and/or Padme). RotS was better than I remembered (never thought it was a bad movie - I just forgot how good it was!), though some bad acting brought it down (as well as some inconsitencies with the OT). The Order 66 scene was actually better since I have started watching the Clone Wars series as watching the clone troops betray Jedi they had worked closely and become friends with was tough. Still think the Anakin/Obi-Wan duel could have been better (less visual gimiks, more emotion).

Overall, a great set. Now on to the extras

From Latinoreviews:_

By Kellvin Chavez on September 23, 2011
0digg
‘Star Wars: The Complete Saga’ On Blu-Ray Breaks Global Sales Records Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment announced today that STAR WARS is the bestselling catalog Blu-ray Disc of all time with worldwide sales totaling one million units, including 515,000 units sold in North America in its first week alone. This represents $84 million in worldwide consumer spend including $38 million in North America - unprecedented for a nine-disc Blu-ray collection at a premium price.

The thirteen-month campaign to launch the SAGA Blu-ray and engage consumers around the globe began in August 2010. From Darth Vader at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), a first look at San Diego Comic Con, a first-of-its-kind partnership with eBay, to creating the world’s largest lightsaber in the UK, the power of the Force continued to resonate around the world as fans came out in droves to have fun with that galaxy far, far away.

"Once again our fans’ enthusiasm to celebrate Stars Wars continues to amaze us,” said Kayleen Walters, Senior Director, Marketing, Lucasfilm. “Our goal was to deliver a premium product that they could enjoy with their family and friends and we are thrilled that they are enjoying it as much as we hoped they would.”

"Star Wars is a franchise with universal stories that resonates as much today as it did 30 years ago," said Mary Daily, Executive Vice President of Marketing for Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Vincent Marcais, Senior Vice President of International Marketing for Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. "With the Blu-ray, audiences can go deeper into the mythology than ever before and reconnect with everything they love about the Saga in the best possible quality."

The comprehensive collection includes the six movies with unparalleled high-definition picture and sound quality, and features numerous deleted, extended and alternate scenes, new documentaries and a cross-section of the countless Star Wars spoofs that have appeared in pop culture over the past three decades. Marking the first time ever that the full Saga is available in one complete collection, STAR WARS: THE COMPLETE SAGA ON BLU-RAY also features a coveted peek into the making of the Saga with vintage documentaries, audio commentaries, behind-the-scenes moments, interviews, prop and costume turnarounds, retrospectives and more.

Episodes I-III and IV-VI are also available as distinct Blu-ray Trilogy collections.

cya

Real-life abused spouses are like that. Sad, but true.

I've never understood why we were supposed to care about him slaughtering a bunch of Tuskan raiders? They kidnap people, torture and rape them, they are total savages, why do we feel bad that he slaughtered them?

They kidnapped and killed his mom. No moral ambiguity here, they are pieces of shit. It's supposed to be an emotional upheaval for the character and we're supposed to be appalled, but I was like "right on".

I wonder what her other boyfriend was like? He must have been a real asshat! Or maybe he just forgot to get a card on Life Day or it was the tone of his voice, "hey Padme get me a beer from the fridge will ya!"

I guess when she became one with the Force and saw Darth chopping off Luke's hand she just mumbled to herself "That's my Skywalker boys they're roughhousing...."
