It's not less violent than the alternative, though. If they just came around the corner with a platoon of dudes with weapons drawn, the Stormtrooper could have surrendered without a shot fired.

The Han tapping his shoulder and running thing makes no sense at all. It's not like they needed to lead the Trooper away from the door as a diversion while someone else picked the look or something. It is just totally nonsensical.

Still love the movie, but a lot of that stuff hit me square in the nuts for the first time watching it the other day. It's been a while since I've seen the OT prior to the BD release, and I've really grown into a cinephile since the last time I watched it. Stuff that I may not have noticed then is glaringly obvious now.

2) What is the idea behind placing the 'shield generator' to Separatist ships hanger bay right next to it? And then to boot...the emergency doors that close when they fail...CLOSE FROM THE OPPOSITE SIDE of said generator so an enemy can gain EASY access to the hanger bay. At least have it close from top to bottom. Orrr...how about sticking the shield generator somewhere DEEP INSIDE THE SHIP.

3) When Dooko brings the gantry down on Kenobi, how come his legs don't get amputated?

Um, the force did it. Whenever there is a inconsistency the force did it

Even if his nonsensical explanation made sense, how much do you think that thing weighs? Having it come to rest even gently on your leg, but still weighing 2 metric tonnes, it would ruin your legs and crush them completely.

It would be like if a Buick crashed, slid, and then eventually just landed gently on your legs. It would still smash them to smithereens.

You're right. On the 2004 DVD bonus disc, in 'The Birth of the Lightsaber' featurette, Lucas explained Obi-Wan and Vader's duel as a very old man versus someone who was only partially a man and mostly a mechanical being, therefore, according to him, not much of a swordfight at all. A very old man versus a machine.

Start around 2:40 in this video if you don't want to watch the whole thing:

It's not nonsensical at all if you actually pay attention to the movie. Nitpicking every little moment is silly.

But not very much. Considering it was a small section and Anakin didn't have any trouble moving it. Watch the movie, the answers are there.

OK, yea I see your point more clearly there. But for me sitting in that theater that day, I wanted some kind of blaster gun battle, like the many we got from ANH. Not some silly or not so silly surrender.

Hey, at least I got my wish and saw Chewie's bowcaster in action in this one.

Why isn't it nonsensical? What makes sense about something that big and presumably heavy not doing any damage to someone's legs, simply because it slid first and came to rest on it? Why do you keep insinuating that I wasn't paying attention in the movie? How does the movie ever explain it?

It's not like you could support a car with your legs if it was placed there gently. It would still break them.

"Nitpicking every little moment is silly" = "Damn, one even I can't explain!"

No trailers were included. Gotta hold onto those past releases for them.

Did anyone notice the missing translation from the Gran in EP 2? It came up "the debate is over we need that clone army now", but now its been removed. Why?

Nitpicking takes the fun out of what is on the surface a fun-adventure movie. You will always find what you take with you in movies. If you somehow dislike these movies you will always look for and find inconsistencies. You will be even happy to find them and gloat about them because it proves your initial feeling right. But what is to be gained by tearing movies apart in that way. You could do it with every movie by the way... "What is a moisture farmer?" It is never explained in A New Hope! "How did the Empire find the rebels on Hoth?" It was never explained how they managed that! It's just negativity and gains you nothing!

The answer is simple. You only suffer permanent damage in Star Wars if you get hit with a lightsaber.

Probably my 2nd favorite.

But it's also not hard to see that the puppet from Empire and Jedi despite all its limitations looks infinitely more real/tangible than the CGI Yoda. As good as computer graphics have become, they are still not quite there yet. There is always some eerie sense sterility and detachment left.

Correct.

After watching the PQs last week I feel that the medium the distant shots of Yoda are pretty darn good.

However those closeups of him are downright awfully cartoonish. Gollum turned out to be much more realistic than Yoda's CGI self.

It just shows that George should have waited about 10 more years so the tech for these films could have been better (or hired WETA to do it instead).

To me Yoda was always an amazing creation because he was so powerful with the force, BUT wasn't a sword-wielding jedi. The "great warrior" thing was turned on its head. Then Lucas turned it back again. Sad. It was nice to have this different, zen view of the force. Yoda shouldn't have even been in the PT. He should have been referred to, but Mace should have assumed his role in the PT.

Agreed.

Also well said.

It doesn't need explained, it's not a glaring, well, anything. Moisture farming on a desert planet ... could they be cultivating and selling water? Even if you can't put it together, it doesn't stop anyone in their tracks.

The movie does explain it ... the Empire have been sending droids all over the place, and Han so happens to blow one up. The Empire put 2 + 2 together. Vader's 'abilities' helped.

Precisely.

The fact that that was the best "inexplicable inconsistency" that poster could come up with shows that he really doesn't understand the difference being such an inconsistency and an irrelevant thing that doesn't need to be explained and doesn't have some incredibly deep philosophical weight.
