I'm acting dumb?

Cool. If that's what you want to call it when somebody calls you on hyperbole and falsehoods, then fine, I'm the dumbest guy around.

All I know is this, it's going to be a long year waiting. My plan is to not watch any of them again until the blu-ray version comes out.

^^^ I wouldn't be able to do that! lol. I always watch Star Wars multiple times a year, I couldn't go a whole year without watching them lol (at least, the original trilogy... I don't watch the prequels all that often )

It makes me laugh when people tell others not to act dumb, yet they can't even spell.

How about going back to school to learn how to spell and to use proper grammar? That might be a start.

Funny, I've never had a problem with it. Doesn't seem to be too much trouble for anyone else, either. Blu-ray.com is neither broken, nor difficult to use.

I just always feel that people who can't type, spell, or construct a sentence properly, ultimately invalidate their argument.

Same here! I was going to do the same for Jurassic Park, but it was the choice by majority and ... sometimes it is hard to turn down a good movie

yes you do have a problem with it. your post #4228. pressing quote only shows what the other person said..not what you had said prior. most other forums do this correctly.. but not blu-ray.com.

I know there's nothing to talk about bluray wise, but maybe we should at least keep things related to star wars ...

Going to chime in on the whole Original vs. Special Edition debacle.

The original is clearly a better film, but not because some of the effects were later replaced, but because the additions were cartoonish crap. In one scene, an annoying droid flies in the background, makes a few beeps, distracts the audience from the dialogue, and leaves. What was the point of that? It was silly and dumb. If you like that kind of thing, that's cool (well, no it isn't actually), but understand that additions like these are:

a) annoying

b) pointless

c) distracting

Almost every addition to the Mos Eisley sequence was on par with the juvenile crap you found on Nickelodian at the time. It takes many of us out of the film, because for a few small seconds, it feels like we are watching the antics found from the live action Scooby Doo movies that came out a few years after the Special Edition releases.

The Jabba the Hut sequence was completely unnecessary. At the time, it was pretty cool to see deleted footage from Star Wars, but the scene a storytelling nightmare. The information is redundant. It kills the pacing of the sequence. The part where Han steps on the tale is idiotic. The movie works better without the scene, and it makes the reveal of the character in ROTJ both more dramatic and more consistent.

The dance number. The Holiday Special is more bearable than that. The song sucks, and the moment where the slave girl turns on her master is completely lost to it.

And yes, it would be nice to have a decent quality editions of both versions. The criticism of this is not that the Special Edition exists, but that unlike Spielberg's E.T. or Ridley Scott's Alien or Cameron's The Abyss, the audience hasn't been treated to both editions in equal quality. Most of us just want to see the original editions in anamorphic.

There's also artistic integrity that goes far beyond "the crappy mask was replaced by crappy CGI."

I couldn't disagree more. The additions to Mos Eisley make it a much more active and living city. Where as before, it seemed exactly what it was... a set. A set with not enough money or extras to really convey the feel of a real living and breathing city. Yes, there are some fun little additions to the scene, like the aformentioned droid or the bucking Ronto. But the Star Wars films have always had their lighthearted moments. So it didn't seem out of place.

Gotta disagree with you on the inclusion of Jabba the Hutt also. Especially since the scene was always meant to be included, but time and money issues required it being removed before the stop motion Jabba could be included. Sure some of the dialogue is repeated from the meeting with Greedo. But it's not as redundant and unneccessay as you claim it to be. As for the tail scene, I can somewhat agree to that. But given Jabba wasn't designed at the time, it's the only way of using the footage without replacing Harrison Ford entirely with a CGI figure to better fit the scene.

Sorry. Never going to agree with anyone on the RotJ dance number being bad. Lapti Nek was mediocre at best. And the Sy Snootles puppet never worked right and just screamed puppet. Where as Yoda and others in ESB and RotJ never looked that badly fake. The replacement with the CGI Sy and the more spirited musical number just seemed to feel more real. Also made Jabba's Den of Thieves feel more wild and alive.

I frankly applaud Lucas for not giving in to a few shouting fanboys, and rather choosing to satisfy his own artistic desires.

Well, when Lucas cut the sequence, he rewrote the dialogue from the Greedo scene to incorporate the information given in the Jabba scene. So, it's now unnecessary, and the unconvincing new effects don't really help either.

The problem with replacing the effects is that while the original effects might look fake, the new ones stand out even more. The type of CG used simply doesn't belong in an early 80's movie. It looks completely unconvincing and over the top.

And what might those be? It doesn't really help if he keeps altering the movies, even though he would have had the chance to do them 'right' with the SEs of 1997.

You guys just have to agree to disagree. Some people, myself included, would like to see the original trilogy done right. I watch those crappy bonus feature discs all the time, and when I pop in the special editions and see the unaltered scenes, I know that Lucas has the money and the right people to give the original releases the treatment and care they deserve. I also see that some people enjoy the special editions, maybe you saw those first or like the cg mixed in with 70s/80s film. That's your prerogative. But the fighting and name calling doesn't really help, does it?
I'm down to see an Ultimate Bluray set that features both. That's where I will spend my money. If not, Lucas won't see a dime, no big deal. Plus, I can always just go watch Star Wars Revisited for a spectacular version of the OG trilogy.
So just make your point with your dollars.
