You mentioned the overuse of classic lines in the PT, and you're right, but it's funny how much better the callbacks are if you actually care about the characters and the story. I'm cautiously optimistic we'll be okay in VII though. The two Trek films obviously have their detractors but I've been a Trek fan since it first aired and one of the things I really do like about the films is JJ's touch with references and homages.

Some are playful but they're all respectful, some are pretty broad and obvious, others are more like in-jokes and the tone usually pretty spot-on.

I need to get on these at some point. I keep waiting for a bargain basement on the 1-5 set. I should see if Netflix has the BDs.

Definitely not. It was changed shortly after THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK was in theaters for a later STAR WARS reissue. And STAR WARS, huge hit that it was, did not play for 3 years straight. I still remember seeing EMPIRE with friends on opening day and we were all shocked when we saw "Episode V". Back then, you just didn't really know anything so EMPIRE was just a sequel, that's it. We were just as surprised at the end which obviously left it open for another sequel.

I believe Netflix only has S1-3 on BD, S4 dvd only, and not S5.
Definitely buy them though, you'll thank yourself after you watch them all. Then you can look up the actualy chronological order chart online, and rewatch they way the events unfolded.

Seriously dude, S6 does an incredible amount in its short 13 episode run, plugging plot holes and tying up all the loose ends that Lucas left dangling, whilst also adding emotional depth that beautifully underscores the events of Episode III and, dare I say it, makes it a better film. It culminates in a jaw-dropping expansion of the Star Wars mythos that's unlike anything seen in the movies but which still fits PERFECTLY.

Of course LUCASFILM can release those films anytime they want to. Fox has the distribution rights, which means every time the series is released, Fox gets paid by Lucasfilm and Fox distributes them. It's not like LucasFilm has to go on bended knee to 20th Century Fox begging them for their approval to release the films.

I so cannot wait to watch the lost episodes!!! The kids and I are watching the blu-ray boxed set (almost to the end of S2), and I am impatiently waiting until we reach S6. Can't wait to see what they do with all the force ghost stuff and where things go for Asoka!

Have you seen S5? Don't click if you haven't:

[Show spoiler] Well, you know how Ahsoka gets framed for a crime she didn't commit and she walks off into the sunset having quit the Jedi Order? That's basically it for the character, S6 included, and that's where they needed to be IMO because she's not even referenced in Ep III.

She's out of the way, and, as much as I like her, not having her there in S6 makes them episodes feel all the more 'movie like' in terms of the character dynamics. And because she's left the Order she may well have survived the purge, so I wouldn't bet against seeing her again in Rebels...

They (Lucas & Kurtz) originally wanted to put the "Episode IV" subtitle in the original release of Star Wars knowing it was a throwback to the Saturday matinee serials, but ultimately decided it would confuse people.

Nobody is expecting them to be removed from canon. We're simply talking about no direct references to the prequels, which seems like an easy and even probably thing to do.

Read through the thread history. It is entirely possible. Studios make deals all the time. It is entirely in the realm of doable within the next few years.
