George Lucas changed the Han and Greedo scene because he didn't want Han to seem like a cold blooded killer but he shot at an unarmed Vader in Empire.

Yes, but Vader's a Bad Man, a Very Bad Man who'd kill them all in a second, so Han's reaction still makes sense according to George's new moral code that he imposed on the Special Editions. Besides, that bit is UTTERLY badass (all it takes is a ****ing glance and Han's blasting away) and if Lucas had changed that then even I'd have become as bitter and twisted as some of the folks on here.

I do hope you mean Yavin. My guess would be that the Death Star couldn't blow up a gas giant.

Nothing cheesy in the original trilogy? Man, Star Wars is a hot plate of nachos! I'll let you in on a closely guarded secret: it's supposed to be cheesy! It was inspired by old B-grade serials and tries to emulate them. It was never a serious study in science fiction (or logic), nor should it be treated as such.

Umm cheesy or plot holes? Not one in the same!, Also not that cheesy...

And really inspired by old serials? Like Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon? Also inspired by The Bible, The Nazis, Laurel & Hardy and The Hidden Fortress? I did not know that. Not sure where I stated anywhere that it was a serious study....

Star Wars and Empire have more than their share of cheesy dialogue and improbable plot elements. It's part of the charm and everybody involved sells it. Nobody really cares why stormtrooper can't hit anything or why people who can build star destroyers and death stars can't keep a freaking astrodroid out of their networks because it all works.

Is the whole bulls-eyeing womprats exchange or 'I don't know where you get your delusions, laser brain' brilliant dialogue? Of course not but it works.

By Jedi the dialogue started going from cheesy fun to just plain bad. 'Boba Fett? Where?' followed by a badass bounty hunter killed by a blind guy...who basically hit him with a stick...wait, accidentally hit him with a stick...did not work. Han's butthurt 'who can you tell, can you tell Luke, is that who can you can tell' was just awful.

And of course who can forget 'It's a trap!!!!'

Plot holes were introduced into the saga the second Vader uttered his famous reveal.

Alec Guinness' 'true from a certain point of view' was the first in a long line of retcons and rationalizations trying to make that square peg fit the round hole it wound up in.

I don't know where you get your delusions, laser-brain. :P

The point is that cheesy is not a bad word when it comes to Star Wars. It's part of the fun. And there are plot holes and dropped threads aplenty in OT. Doesn't make it any less awesome.

So hilarious.

The two most vicious attackers in here right now are people I have blocked in other threads prior to this exchange. It just goes to prove that it isn't Star Wars that makes people ugly on the inside, it's just the people themselves.

lol

1 - I always felt that he knew Boba was right there and was just
a - being a smartass and
b - trying to keep Boba from knowing that he could see so that he could sneak attack him.

Remember, his vision was coming back to him a while ago and then he shot the tentacle with no problem, Lando also didn't realize that he could see, he was scared that Han would shoot him accidentally.

2 - That's not that far off... It is jealousy talking. When has talking through the specter of jealousy ever made anyone talk or think properly.

3 - There was nothing wrong with this line, this is just nitpicking now.

The AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center (in Maryland) will be showing the SE of A New Hope in 35mm.

Note they state:

"This version is the Special Edition released in 1997, the only version the distributor allows to be shown theatrically."

Given the lack of options, at least the theater is being honest about which version they're showing.

Seems odd that they could only show the 1997 version. Lucas has put out two more versions of his "original vision" since then. Looks like they would want to show his final "original vision" from the blu-ray release on the big screen.

Why people get so angry about this stuff is beyond me. Why do you care if I like or dislike something? If I think the writing is bad in the prequels? If I prefer practical effects? If I like the junk future aesthetic more than the clean look of the prequels? Like really, why care?

It's so weird. I don't think this argument is so heated for any other series.

All about $$$ I suppose. For a new 35mm print, they would have to go back to the original elements and integrate the digital changes as these Blu-ray changes are just being integrated with the old 2004 master cheap and easy. The 1997 version represents the latest printed film version.

I've read reports where some theaters have actually projected the Blu-ray at some events which has got to look like garbage as they look sub par projected on my set-up at equivalently 124" diagonally.

No doubt blowing up a 1080p source on a big theater sized screen is going to show a lot of shortcomings in the picture.

I've seen Blu-ray's projected on a 30 foot screen and they look fine, hardly distinguishable from a normal digital screening of a new movie, which to my eyes mostly look like Blu-ray's anyway.

Not everyone is looking for flaws. It's amazing how much better life is when you just focus on the positive.
