The truth is, there were (still are) a lot of ppl that don't mind the changes at all, but after hearing ppl complain for years on end, or also joint the UOT camp. What is to be said of those people, too easily influenced by peer pressure?

Every human being is influenced, most human beings dramatically so. Wouldn't surprise me, my reaction is just "welcome to Earth" I guess.

I've disliked the changes since day one in the theater for the special editions. Mostly due to the CGI thrown in, which clashes with the practical and very gritty look of the junk future aesthetic in the original trilogy, in my opinion. If someone likes the changes though more power to them, I want a seamless branching option for the films, not one cut or the other.

Awesome news on the original versions getting a Blu-Ray release!

My guess is that they will try to have this ready to be released next year for the holiday season to coincide with the release of Episode 7. And that would make perfect sense since the main original cast of the OT is returning. It will be the perfect marketing tie-in.

I'm not a HUGE SW fan but I enjoyed the films (PM excepted), I did like some of the foreshadowing in Sith actually, despite the too-quick transformation, and wooden acting by Hayden Whatsisname
Would be good to own the OOT on Blu Ray!

Same here. That's pretty much the only reason that I bought the existing box set (as finding legit copies of SPFX: The Empire Strikes Back and especially Classic Creatures: Return of the Jedi had always been difficult, and the Japanese LDs of them are still rather expensive). Paying $60 for the UK set while on a sale was more than worth it just for that reason.

Another thing to remember is that most Star Wars special features don't re-appear in future releases. Besides the massive amount of content from the DVDs that didn't carry over to the current BD set, the featurettes from the following VHS/LD releases have yet to be re-released:

From Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga (1986 stand-alone VHS release, 65m) [re-released in 1989, 1992, and 1995]

1993 "Definitive Edition" LD boxset
  • Interview with George Lucas (10m)
  • Interview with Ben Burtt (22m)
  • Interview with Dennis Muren (10m)
  • "A Flight Through Asteroids" storyboard comparison (2m)
  • Jedi "Videomatics" (2m)
  • "Lapti Nek" music video (3m)
  • Lucasfilm Archive tour (9m)
  • The Star Wars Gallery w/ Ralph McQuarrie (2m)
  • "How Walkers Walk" with Dennis Muren (2m)

1995 THX "Faces" LD singles
  • Leonard Maltin interview w/ George Lucas (20m total, split over 3 discs)

1997 Special Edition LD boxset
  • Making of "The Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition" (30m)

2000 Special Edition VHS boxset
  • Episode II: The Saga Continues (11m)

2002 Episode II VHS
  • Star Wars Connections with C-3P0 and R2-D2 (6m)

Also I already sold my special edition blus. Went for $80 something. They'll go for nothing as soon as this is announced. I'll be a little surprised if the special editions aren't included at all, however. I wonder what sources they are having to utilize since they say some of them are damaged.

There's nothing to work out. LFL has a distribution deal with Fox and not one letter of that has changed since the Disney takeover. LFL will produce the content, Fox will release it, just like before.

With the exception of the very last featurette, I've burned all of that stuff onto DVD from my various LD and VHS versions of the films, plus a few extra goodies like the documentary the BBC did just before Ep I came out, which features both Senor Spielbergo and Rick McCallum talking about George's plan to do 9 Star Wars films...

It absolutely will not. The first releases sold millions of copies, not to mention the recent BD/DVD combo packs.

What so many of you don't understand is that to the majority of consumers don't care what version they're watching. They just care that it's on Blu-ray and they're likely not going to spend another $80-$100 for another set with lesser quality versions of the film.

I'll believe in this release when it hits shelves and all the hardcore cracks examine and identify it as the true unaltered original theatrical versions

Sorry but you are wrong my good man (you couldn't be more wrong if you were a blind man entering a dart throwing contest). This will be the biggest release of all time on BD. Thanks to George he has made these the holy grail of ownership! What other films have dozens of sites that are dedicated to do nothing but restore these masterpieces to the way they should have been. I am so going to be laughing at a handful of you once these hit the shelves...

it's a glorious day and I knew it would bring the ones that don't want them released back in the thread. It just so irks them that the so called PT are not as beloved. Umm there is a reason for that and it's called "bad film making".

I'm sure almost everyone that is a member here will pick this up providing there is not some big issue that crops up. But for the average Joe I'm not so sure. Most average Joes nowadays like shiny, new and digital.

Yeah, because nothing conveys the "high quality" of the existing BD set quite like this...

There's really not much chance of that.

In terms of units? Things like Avatar and Frozen have moved like six or seven million each. The chances of a UOT release hitting those kinds of numbers are slim.

In terms of total revenue its prospects aren't a lot brighter. It will likely retail for significantly less than the Complete Saga which means it will have to move significantly more units (the Complete Saga sold a little under 2 million copies) to generate more revenue.

It would sell very well and anything's possible but 'biggest BD release of all time' is kind of a stretch.
