The original song isn't exactly a masterpiece, but at least it's shorter, much less annoying and much less in your face than the horrendous Jedi Rocks, and it fits much better with the seedy atmosphere of Jabba's palace.

That's what has always bothered me...when I was a kid, Jabba's Palace was dark and mysterious and a little bit scary. I credit it with my first interest in "darker" fare like horror films and more sophisticated sci-fi. I've talked to quite a few folks who had a similar experience.

That would have never happened had the entire mystery and tone of the place had been completely blown by it suddenly becoming a lost Digital Muppet Show "crazy dancin' finale" pretty much neutering the entire Jabba's Palace sequence.

Then they can do the stand alone films but make them where you don't really need to have them connect with the other three trilogies.

That would be perfect in my mind.
And I think that's pretty much where it's heading - I agree, it's a good time to be a Star Wars fan.

This.

Half the changes I hate aren't necessarily horrible themselves, they just change the tone way too much.

Nobody knows. Even though that rumor is from August, it was never officially confirmed or denied by Disney or Lucasfilm.

Finally got the OT Box set after years of refusing because of changes. But I've deprived myself of classic SW for too many years because of this, and Disney doesn't seem like they will release the unaltered versions any time soon. I do like some changes too, like the added Cloud City stuff. I guess when it comes to the worse changes all I can do is say "NOOOOO!!" and move on. I'm sure I'll enjoy them

Yeah, that's where my money is as well - should be LOTS of Star Wars news, from the first real looks at the old cast in the new film (though some say that may come out just before, like in an EW spread), to whatever Blu-ray/media news, and things like theme park stuff as well. I'm not going, but I sure can't wait to hear the news from there.

It's not terrible. Yes, many of us prefer and will still purchase the UOT when it is available, but I don't regret having it at all. It is true about Cloud City - it looks so much better now. I think a few of us have discussed before how even once we have the UOT, we likely will still watch the SE of Empire, since so little was changed and it's much more subtly done, yet some of it is very effective.

Yeah Empire is definitely the best SE. Is got the best changes, and the only one I really don't like or get is the extended Shuttle sequence. I just don't get it... why the hell did Lucas think we needed more of that

The original line "Bring my shuttle!" is so much better. Vader sounded so pissed, as he should after what just happened. Stupid change. I do love all the added scenery on Cloud City though. I would hate for that to go. It really adds a lot of visual appeal and even a little more atmosphere to an already astounding location, and it's not a giant creature (I forget what they are called) walking in front of the camera or anything distracting like some of ANH's visual changes. It's also something Kershner himself always wanted and would have had he the recourses. My ideal version of Empire is the Theatrical release, cleaned up and perfectly restored, and exactly the same except for the Cloud City stuff.

Would anyone like to sell me their DVD of Return of the Jedi from the 2006 set...or later, just so long as it isn't the Blu-Ray version on DVD...
Thanks

I finally finished my 6 custom covers (blu-ray/DVD combo style) for Star Wars Episodes I through VI. If anyone wants a set, PM me. The resolution in the files below is significantly reduced.

Cheers!
Steve

Not knocking you, but there's been strong rumors of an original cut release at the end of the year. I'll wait to see how that pans out before finally giving in.

I think what could very well happen is they'll do a new box set with all the current movies (including the original cuts), they'll discontinue the existing complete saga set, and name the new set "The Star Wars Motion Picture Anthology" or something like that.

I just hope that there's a stand-alone box of the original cuts of the OT. It should be rather obvious that those who want them most are also the least likely people to want anything to do with the PT...

Eh, even if they only give the option of buying everything together in one set (which might be highly likely), I'd still be fine with it, even though like you, I to have no love for the prequels or SE's.

Like I said once, I bought that Superman box set just so I could get the original version of the first movie, even though said set contained a few terrible movies itself. And I could always check out certain scenes from the prequels when I'm in the mood for a few laughs.

And that reminds me, when the new set comes out, hopefully Jake Lloyd won't be the central focus of the cover this time.
