Yes, it comes with the added "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" on the DVD version in the BD/DVD set. You also get magical rocks and windows, blinking Ewoks, etc. They still couldn't be bothered to fix the one thing in the entire trilogy that actually needed to be fixed if they were going to make changes at all and that is Luke's white/blue/white/green lightsaber when he is on the Millennium Falcon training. The DVDs are exact to what you get on the BDs.

As a kid I thought it was weird he picks him up and threw him with no emotion. I love it now feels like after 20 years of being his slave he breaks and screams out. I think its the second best change he made personally.

Spielberg has a good attitude about these sorts of things, he says if the audience doesn't like one of his movies, the audience isn't "wrong", there was something wrong with the movie. Mr. Lucas digs in his heels against criticism, Spielberg is open to it and listens and adjusts accordingly.
I was leafing though Droidmaker (the story of Lucas' technological achievements) when I came across a part which sums up Lucas' attitude rather nicely. The gist of it is that he spent so much of his early career battling against the studio system and then the technological constraints of filmmaking, it seemed only natural that once those hurdles were overcome that the audience themselves would then feel the force (heh) of his will. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, just making the point that Lucas has only ever done things his own way and (in his mind) if we don't like it, tough.

If you're gonna re-use audio, I'd prefer Lucas to have used Captain Kirk's last words to Chris Lloyd's Klingon in Star Trek 3 as he kicked him into the lava pit, "I have had.... enough of....YOU!"

And I think eventually he realized that having total control and being able to do anything you want didn't turn out to be as awesome as he thought it would be. And that's probably one of the many reasons he decided to sell everything and wash his hands of it.

He washed his hands of SW because of the continuing outcry from fans, plus his age. No way he was going to do this forever. The vocal fanbase, I think, got him to retire faster...

Spielberg was rocked by the box-office failure of The Sugarland Express (which is a fantastic movie, by the way). He was terrified he would never work again, agreed to do JAWS because he thought it could be a hit...but the film's myriad technical problems caused the film to go over-schedule and over-budget, and when the film wrapped, he fled home and had a massive anxiety attack. Spielberg has been happy making movies for the audience, has been happy to continue working, it's his life. I don't think he has the resentment towards studio control that Mr. Lucas had, I think the man is grateful he was allowed to continue following his life's dream of directing films. Lucas was annoyed by the structure of studio control, Spielberg wanted to keep working. That might be one insight into their long friendship, because they're not really coming at the profession from the same points of view. Lucas is a revolutionary, Spielberg is a (blindingly talented) craftsman.

Hi Jim,

Hope all is well. In regard to your inquiry, if you're referring to the 1997 re-release of the original trilogy, those editions of Episodes IV-VI aren't being offered in the Star Wars - Digital Movie Collection. The Digital Movie Collection contains the original cut of Episodes IV-VI. However, there are a variety of special features included in the Digital Movie Collection including behind the scenes features, documentaries, and scenes for viewing deleted from the theatrical cuts of the movies. Feel free to contact us again if you need any further assistance.

Regards,

Justin Reid

I think you could say both of them have a "revolutionary" side to them, but I agree with the assessment about Spielberg. He has said he was terrified that if Jaws did poorly he would be kicked out of Hollywood and never get to even direct another film. That film caused a tremendous amount of trouble for him in terms of the production of it. Everything that could go wrong to make it go over-budget and take longer to film happened. But, thankfully, it turned out exactly as it was supposed to. (In other words, that it was an amazing film that audiences responded to favorably.)

Like I said, I think it was many reasons, with those being 2 of them of course.

But here's the thing I simply can't understand when it comes to him as well as the people who endlessly defend everything he's done over the years; when he decided to only release the versions he preferred and let the beloved classic versions die out on obsolete video formats that nobody wants to watch in this day and age, what exactly did he think was going to happen?

It's a fair question. What did he think the reaction was going to be? Did he think everybody would just blindly accept it, no questions asked and not criticize him for it? Because if that's what he honestly thought would happen, then he needed to take a serious reality check.

It's more likely Justin Reid didn't get the memo. Though the official announcement doesn't say one way or the other, media outlets have reported that this will be the altered edition. And odds are IF this was the UOT, Disney would have said so.

I wish Lucas would've added even more to when Vader decides to throw the emperor..maybe something like, "No, I'm mad as hell an I'm not going to take it anymore." Jedi already had the stupid Wizard of Oz and Tarzan homages, might as well add a Network one too.
